Arp Gate: Can it be MIDI Controlled?

Hello,
I've been trying to assign the Arpeggiator Gate knob of my Korg Triton (CC#s 62 & 63) to that of Sylenth1. I've followed the MIDI Learn instructions but I can't get it to follow any knob. Can the Arpeggiator Gate be MIDI Controlled? How?
Thanks

Yes, all parameters can be MIDI controlled using the Midi Learn button. Not sure why you are experiencing a problem, maybe Sylenth1 does not receive your MIDI data (does ANY midi CC work at all?).Mister Gibson wrote:Hello,

Btw, if you're using FL Studio it won't work, since FLS doesn't pass CC's to the VST plugins for some reason. You'll need to use FL's functionality in that case.

I use Sylenth1 in Cubase4.
Sylenth1 MIDI Learn works for the 8 edit knobs but not the 3 arpeggiator knobs of Triton.
While reading the manual's appendix I noticed several CC#s are missing. In particular CC#s 62, 63, and 101. Have these been excluded or are they hidden, and does Sylenth1 support NRPNs?

The only CC's that can't be used as general controllers because they have other functions, are:Mister Gibson wrote:I use Sylenth1 in Cubase4.

0 Bank select
6 (N)RPN
38 (N)RPN
64 Sustain
98 NRPN
99 NRPN
100 RPN
101 RPN
120 Allsoundoff
123 Allnotesoff
CC62 and 63 work fine here in Cubase4. Please note that the Midi learn function in the latest version of Sylenth1 uses value pickup mode. The controller will only be linked if it reaches the knobs value.
Yes, it supports both RPN and NRPN. You can use the same Midi Learn button to assign them.Mister Gibson wrote:and does Sylenth1 support NRPNs?

Thanks Lennard. I'm just having the toughest time getting MIDI control of Sylenth1.
Which is the controller and which is the knob, and how do I get it to the knob's value? Is there an alternative MIDI Learn method available for version 2.2?
Thanks
I press the button, it lights, I turn my control knob (and see activity on the transport bar) then I move the parameter knob, Nothing happens: no light-off, nothing. Not even if I turn and move both knobs simultaneously. I've tried the same with 12 knobs across 3 different controllers and I get the same result.Sylenth1 Manual wrote:
When you press the MIDI Learn button, it will light up and wait for MIDI
input. Turn a knob on your MIDI controller, and drag a knob you want to
control on the user interface with the mouse. The MIDI Learn button will now
go back to grey and controller has been linked.
Upon my initial launch of Sylenth1 some of its knobs were preset and controllable without using the MIDI Learn function, others had to be taught. I have since Reset ALL and lost everything, and now I can't get it to learn anything. Is ths uncommon behavior? Can it be restored to the factory settings?Sylenth1 Manual wrote:
Right next to the MIDI learn button you'll find a button named Reset All.
Pressing this button will reset all learned MIDI CC values to the default
settings as listed in the appendix.

The manual doesn't list those CCs nor does it state which are assigned to Sylenth1's Arp Gate. Which did you assign to the Arp Gate?Lennard wrote: CC62 and 63 work fine here in Cubase4.

The Reset All button simply restores the factory settings. You can also try deleting the file MidiLearn.dat in the Sylenth1 installation folder, which stores your personal settings.Mister Gibson wrote:Upon my initial launch of Sylenth1 some of its knobs were preset and controllable without using the MIDI Learn function, others had to be taught. The midi learn method has changed in v2.2. It now uses value pickup mode, which means the link will only be made when both the midi controller and the knob on the gui reach the same value. The proper way to make a link is to turn on the midi learn button, click the knob on the gui you wnat to learn, twist the knob on your midi controller from 0 to 100% slowly. When the controller reaches the knobs value it will automatically link and the midi learn light will go out.Mister Gibson wrote:Lennard wrote: Please note that the Midi learn function in the latest version of Sylenth1 uses value pickup mode. The manual only lists the factory settings. You can use any CC number or (N)RPN to control any knob/slider/button/whatever on Sylenth1, except for the CC's I posted above.Mister Gibson wrote:The manual doesn't list those CCs nor does it state which are assigned to Sylenth1's Arp Gate. Well, I am using FL Studio, and I wanna' control the modulate function using the knobs on me brand new Korg NanoKontrol, eh! There's gotta' be some way, eh? PLEASE!!!!!! This is the best freaking synth and I use it extensively, so I really need to be able to control the sylenth1, baby yeah!Lennard wrote:Btw, if you're using FL Studio it won't work, since FLS doesn't pass CC's to the VST plugins for some reason. Yes there is a way, you need to use FL midi controlling functionality, either link parameters directly via the menu in the upper left corner of the VST or use a template, check here for more info: http://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.p ... t=sylenth1spacewalker wrote:Well, I am using FL Studio, and I wanna' control the modulate function using the knobs on me brand new Korg NanoKontrol, eh! I'm still banging my head on this one though I've gotten a knob from Korg's padKontrol to link to the Arp Gate. Now if I can just get the knob I want to use to act right.

Oh well, I didn't get what I wanted but at least I got what I need. The Sylenth1 Gate Time control cannot be controlled by the Gate Time knob on Triton but fortunately, I have other knobs.

The Triton Gate Time knob is transmitting MIDI but Sylenth1 isn't receiving it. If you want to test it on your end, you'll need a Triton Classic 61.
If the Sylenth1 Gate Time control was hard-coded to a CC# , I should be able to set the Triton Gate Time knob to transmit the same. If I couldn't, I'd transform the transmitted data to be compatible with to the hard-coded CC#.

Hello Lennard,
Great work you did on Sylenth, this is the best sounding VSTi of my collection.
I am having the same issue as Mr Gibson, I cannot get MIDI learn to work in spite of your explanations.
I am on Nuendo 3, I can see incoming MIDI CC from my Motif XS but for some reason I cannot link for instance the cutoff knob of Sylenth to any knob on my Motif.
Any other idead why this is not working?

[FIXED]
And a split second after hitting "submit" I thought: "What if the MIDI track needs to be record ready?" .... LOL
It works Lennard, it was all operator numbness! Thanks again for a great instrument.
