Vintage Funk Kit

We all love the 70s Funk era, influenced by many and sampled 1000's of times. Drumdrops present the Vintage Funk Kit allowing you to recreate the drum sound from this era. Recorded with a 70s sound in mind in a nice tight recording room. With the help of Jan Kincaid (Brand New Heavies), we sampled his Sonor HiLite Drum Kit with a mixture of vintage cymbals and bonus percussion. The kit was tuned for to recreate a 70s Funk sound. So dig out your wah wah pedal bring out the platform boots and build some perfect funk tunes with this formidable sounding funk kit.

The Kit was recorded at the Ironworks studio in Brighton, UK by Mike Pelanconi. Mike also recorded our 70s Funk drum track album 70s Funk Drops and set this kit up in a similar fashion.

The Vintage Funk kit was created on a Sonor Hilite Kit tuned for a 70s funk sound. It comprises a 22" x 14" Bass Drum, a Sonor Sonorlite 14" x 6.5" Snare Drum, a Sonor Horst Link 14" x 5" Snare, a 16" x 16" Sonor HiLite Floor Tom, and two Hilite Rack Toms, a 12" x 9" and a 10" x 8". The cymbals used were Zildjian 14" New Beat Hi-Hats, a Bosphorous Master Series 18" Crash, an 18" Sabian HHX Legacy Crash and a 20" Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride. Percussion for this kit includes cowbell, tambourine and a shaker. We have also included some samples from the digital Clap Trap. Everything you need for a 70s Funk kit.

This kit can be purchased in seven different packs. Four of which are available to buy now and three which will be released soon. The packs are the "Multi-Sample Pack", The "All Samples Pack", the "Drum Replacement Pack", the "One Shot Sample Pack", the "BFD Pack", the "Kontakt Pack" and the "Dual Kit Kontakt Player Pack".

The "Multi-Sample Pack" is a sample pack containing mixed stereo samples of each articulation. We have included 24 velocities with 3 round robin variations and the pack totals 1709 drum samples. You can either use our built in patches or build your own, using the samples included. All of the samples are mixed from a combination of the close mics, room mics and overheads and recorded as 24-bit 44.1 kHz WAV files, meaning they can be loaded into almost any sampler or drum machine. We have also included 16-Bit samples for legacy compatibility. To make things easier we have included patches for some of the most commonly used software packages including:

We also include 1500 MIDI Loops to this multi-sample pack, covering a variety of genres including over 100 funk loops. The loops are mapped to the default MIDI map.

The Drum Replacement Pack contains patches for Slate Trigger, Drumagog 4 & 5 and DrumXChanger.

The Slate Trigger patch has been created using the close mic, overhead and room mic samples from the kit. There are samples for the kick drum, snares and toms. The samples in this patch have up to 24 velocity levels and five round robins totalling 7140 samples. The samples come in the tci format.

The Drumagog 5 patch uses the same samples and you can choose the balance between the close mic, overheads and room mics. This patch uses up to 8 velocity levels with four round robins totalling 1344 samples. We have included samples for the Kick, snare, toms and hi-hat. If your version of Drumagog contains the Auto hi-hat tracking feature then the samples will follow the opening and closing of the hi-hat. The samples come in the gog format. We have also included a patch for Drumagog 4 which uses 216 samples.

The DrumXchanger patch contains stereo mixed samples (a combination of the overhead, room and close mics samples). This patch contains eight velocity levels with no round robins totalling 74 samples. The snares also contain a rimshot sample that have their own adjustable trigger threshold. The samples come in the splx format.

The "All Samples Pack" contains the "Multi-Samples Pack", "The Drum Replacement Pack" and all of the samples from the "Kontakt 5 Pack" (but not the instrument found in the Kontakt Pack). These separate close, overhead and kit mic samples are provided with up to 24 velocities of each articulation and 5 round robins and total 12806 24-bit WAV samples. Customers can build their own patches for their favourite samplers from these.

We have also included an SFZ 2.0 compliant patch which utilises the separate mic samples and has been tested in Plogue Sforzando.

The "One Shot Sample Pack" is perfect for customers who want to check out the sound of this kit or only need one velocity of each sample. The pack includes one velocity of each articulation totalling 44 drum samples. These samples come as 24-bit WAVs and 16-bit WAVs for the legacy drum machines. All of the samples are mixed from a combination of the close mics, overheads and room mics.

The "BFD pack" is coming soon and has been been built as an expansion pack for FXPansions BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2. The pack comes with 36 articulations which have been recorded up to 120 velocity steps and in total it contains 12405 samples. This kit also includes 27 groove palettes. These are split into 118 Funk loops. Included are two mix presets per format.

The "Kontakt 5 pack" contains the second generation Drumdrops Kontakt Instrument which has been rebuilt completely from the ground up. The new instrument comes with a completely new GUI and has many new features. Special focus has gone on the compatibility with E-Kits so e-kit owners can completely customise their kit to work perfectly with the instrument using our new MIDI CC data page. This pack only works with the FULL version of Kontakt 5.5 or above. The new instrument includes many new features such as:-

The "Dual Kit Kontakt Player Pack" will be released soon and contain both the Vintage Funk and Vintage Disco Kits. Contained will be both of the kontakt instruments we have built for these kits but they will be Kontakt Player compatible and have full NKS compatibility.
