WOW - I am absolutely blown away by this! I first came to understand what a Pultec is when I watched an engineer mix a Queen track on an SSL console. When he flipped the switch on the Pultec's there was this moment of "Boom!!! - there's that elusive sound I've been trying to figure out". Since then I've been looking and looking for a software emulation that "does the thing". The only emulation I could find that "Does the thing" (more on "the thing" in a bit) was Apogee's EQP-1A. It was lush, it was liquid, it was like sex on the Master Buss and it was $300 that I couldn't fork out because of payment gateway problems. What to do?

I tried everything, I tried UAD and Acoustica and Waves and nothing. Nothing had "that sound" and nothing "did the thing" until I found this little beauty. I was surprised that a free plugin emulation was so good.

It does the low-end mix trick! Woot - finally! Hear the bass just ooze out of the speakers. Fat, round, and CLEAN (choose 30 for the Lows, attenuate the Lows to tase - about 1, then boost the lows to taste, about 2 and make sure the Bandwidth is set to 7 - this one is super sensitive in comparison to the Apogee version).

It gives you that sexy, lush, 3D "liquid sound" (switch in the tube emulation). My face melted listening to it! (Mix at 96kHz with 2X oversampling or 192kHz to REALLY hear that sexy tube go to work)

It's really good at everything else Pultec's are famous for but for me getting that 3D liquid lushness and that fat kick-*ss bass is the most important thing. I am still going to buy the Apogee (the best psychedelic sound is multi-layered) but I am so happy that I found this! It took me years to figure out what on earth a Pultec was, what it did, and most importantly how it's supposed to sound in actuality. I'm glad it didn't take me that long to find this after I understood what I was looking for.

Kudos to the developers - it's clear that they absolutely know quality both in terms of hardware and software (seriously - 64-bit floating point and oversampling in a free plugin...no words can express). Much love and respect. Thank you.

I have spent many hours testing and comparing the Ignite PTEq-1a EQ plug-in with other Pultec-style EQ plug-ins. I first matched the control settings on the PTEq-1a to various settings on other plug-ins, which included: (1) Pushtec 5+1A, (2) Noble-Q, (3) Noble-Qex, (4) SonEQ, (5) TDR VOS SlickEQ, and (6) NI/Softube Enhanced EQ in order to evaluate the tonal characteristics and qualities of the PTEq-1a. At least three (3) different setting sonic ranges were used in my evaluation for all the EQ plug-ins tested. I accurately matched all the plug-ins in this test and carefully listened through my system using both Neumann KH120A studio monitors and Sennheiser HD 25-1 II professional headphones. The audio test material included a combination of female vocal tracks, and nylon and steel string acoustic guitar tracks. In summary, the tonal qualities of the PTEq-1a could identically match that of the Noble-Q, Noble-Qex, Enhanced EQ and TDR VOS SlickEQ for the wide range of settings tested. Although the GUI is on the small side and less elegant to that of the purchased products, you certainly don't need to spend any money to obtain the same excellent results with the PTEq-1a. I could not get SonEQ to identically match the tone/quality settings of the other plug-ins in this comparison, as SonEQ is just somewhat different, but nevertheless excellent. However to my surprise, the Pushtec 5+1A EQ plug-in was somewhat magical in this comparative test exhibiting certain "air-like" qualities above all the rest. On the flip side, the Pushtec 5+1A was complicated and timely to set up and does not have an output gain control making it even more difficult on recorded tracks without ample headroom. Conclusion: you should most definitely have a copy of the Ignite PTEq-1a plug-in in your studio arsenal.

Love it! It's a really fantastic piece of software except for randomly muting some tracks. Disabling/enabling solves that until it randomly mutes the track again. As this happened on a kick track first I assumed it was a peaking problem but no - completely random and not reproducable. Can work for hours and suddenly the kick is missing from the track..so I've got to switch off/on. But I wouldn't bother doing this if it wouldn't sound so amazing.

It's a great plugin. But needs some bug fixes.

The site still says hacked btw.

Back to the plugin, when i use this in ableton and reopen a project, some sounds are completely panned to the right or i get a huge amount of destortion. By swinging of the tube or fiddle around with the bandwidth knob fixes it. But when u have running several instances of this plugin its a mess to see which one of this plugin causes the problem.

Will there be a update of this one? It's by far the best pultec i ran into (free that is)

Can you please answer developer?

Please, add the change of routing of the 3 modules.

This is very important for a lot of uses.

Always liked PTEq-X, but it seems the high frequency behavior is not correct. Check this video please: https://youtu.be/ZqMpyVJRTBE
