They say when you're going through Hell you should keep going, so we are, ONE and Kick-Ass Brass! are not even part of that really but we realise they are long overdue and we are doing all we can as quickly as humanly possible to get them out there ASAP. Please hang in there, it will be worth the wait.

Whilst Dave is doing the software we've been stockpiling new material and formatting old for the titles we have planned.

I think Kick-Ass Brass! will be our first release. Following that we should have two versions of ONE released pretty much simultaneously. Hip Hop ONE will feature all new material from Lukecage, something in the region of 1500 loops around 4 CDs worth of material in practice. We'll also release the Infinity version of ONE. This will be our core product with a large and diverse library based on our existing but recent catalogue. This version will be updated and extended with new content and features over the years. We already have a lot of content ready and waiting for several other titles with more specialist themes to follow these initial releases too. These will all integrate into one interface so you can select which additional content you add to the core Infinity library or just stick to specialist titles if they suit you better.

Let me assure you again no one wants ONE out there and kicking butt more than me. We've pretty much stopped releasing any new content for more than two years waiting for it and are very excited about being able to give people access to a library of such quality and diversity they won't have experienced before. It won't be *that* much longer.

Awesome that KAB is the first release because I'm awaiting it quite eagerly.

Do you have any new demos that show off the new instruments in Kick Ass Brass? If not, that's okay... I just want to hear the difference between the VSTi and the original library.

And when at the latest do you think it will be released? Summer..? Or is it still set for late March? I assume that's a little optomistic but optomism never hurts.

Post

The latest news is the samples are done. The first working build is hopefully going back to the producers next week. They need to do 'top level' programming but I'd like to think I'll have the final version by the end of March. After that we have to do all the boring stuff like artwork but I'm *hoping* that I might be able to start shipping final product before the end of April. We also have a system that allows for the library to be upgraded with small downloads to enhance FX, etc. and create new multis so I think we'll get it out there, encourage users to create programs to swap and then offer sound upgrades as downloads from our site to keep it interesting too. Rather than wait an extra month to try and bump up the box specs with extra multis or whatever. The basis of this library is the sound, everyone loves it. We'll try to get some new demos done as soon as we've done the important stuff finsihing the product too. With ONE we'll offer a download and sounds so you can try that out too although again it's really going to be all about the sounds - the great engine Dave's created you can take for granted! ;-)

Matt - we ought to show them the latest screenshots and a few audio examples eh?

Post

Screenshots are no problem at all. Audio is a bit of a hassle for me right now but you're welcome to put some of that out too. One loop isn't much of a help in understand how good 2000 might be though. ;-)

Here we are:-

This shows ONE's main screen, including the browser. There are eight rack units in total, similar in spec to the ONE/solo released last summer. However, each rack also now includes a fully programmable step sequencer and you can edit individual slices, layer hits up and do all sorts of cool stuff. There's also four fully featured FX units with 18 stereo 64-bit FX algorithms to choose from including a high-quality reverb, delay, flanger, chorus, phaser, dynamics, filters etc.

ONE's browser is worth a special mention - it has advanced searching, sorting and indexing capabilities that you can use to browse installed libraries and organise REX/ACID libraries that you import. No need to run a messy conversion application - and you can locate/relocate your content whereever you want and the browser will track it, even on external devices and disks.

We have been busy :-)

Each of the 8 rack units has several pages, one of this is the waveform with slices. You'll be able to mute slices, make slices hits and add them to your library of hits, or select hits from your library and put them onto the appropriate slices if you just want to put a particular fave kick drum on top of the one in the loop or whatever. Each of these units can also load a kick and be programmed in step time or load a multisample. Initial releases will only scratch the surface really. We already have thousands of hits being categorised ready for future release for example and we'll add multis, additional programs and FX as downloadable upgrades over time too.

The browser will show loops, hits, FX progs, drum kits and you can select your filters and priorities to the way you like to work too. You'll be able to instantly audition loops at the right tempo here too so you'll know pretty well if they're worth loading before you actually do it. It's been hard to figure out how to tag stuff for the browser but you'll be able to search for, say, bass lines. You'll then find that there are several folders presented to help narrow your search too (synth basses, electric basses, sub basses, etc.) additionally you can filter by library so if you selected Hip Hop then all the bass lines in these folders would be broadly speaking Hip Hop ones too. You could define a tempo range too if that might be relevant to narrow the choices further. You've got three definable filters and can do lots of clever stuff once you figure out the way you like to search for stuff.

Obviously each loop can either play in sync with your host, can be switched off and each slice played live over MIDI (maybe to add fills, etc.) or you can export the MIDI file and do power edits in your main sequencer if you prefer. Same applies to imported REX or ACID files of your own.

Update on the libraries too; both the Hip Hop and Infinity libraries are currently running at 3.5-3.7 gigs of uncompressed data, 2000-3000 loops in each too. Looks like they'll be £120/$199 each too the way things stand although this is not confirmed.

Our concept is 'simply powerful' - this instrument should be really easy to use and do 99% of what people actually want to do. There is stuff we have in mind already for V2 but really they'll only be bells and whistles. The browser is VERY important IMHO, the loop control editing is really obvious and the libraries will be the thing that really makes this baby fly. Especially the general ones that will have an amazing breadth of content. You you add libraries and your own material the possibilities will expand exponentially too.

HI

I hope the Browser is as intuitive to use as you say - Kontakts one was almost enough to put me off using the program!

Saying that I hope it 'see's' everything on a hard-drive - I kinda remember Phatmtik going blind on me quite often!

This will be our first software but I'm amazed at this kind of stuff. Maybe I'm in for a rude awakening but I expect our stuff to do what's advertised without any huffing or puffing. I'm assuming there's going to be the odd quirk like conflicts or files not being the format that people think, etc. that cause confusion but as far as the browser goes it'll just update upon launching or when prompted. It's simple because you can just browse manually and only add any filters as necessary. When you add a new library you might just filter by that to see all the new stuff. When you want a loop you'll search for drum loops and then focus on the folder of ones with FX sounds in them too if you think you're most likely after that sort. If you suddenly remember that you think it was producer by a particular artist ot at a certain BPM filter by that and you'll have 50 to browse maybe rather than 3000 or whatever. I think most people will have a standard layout for the way they like to view their library (saved as a default) and then tweak it to do a specific task when necessary. Just to be absolutely clear only our libraries will be fully tagged. Your custom library of your own content has to be organised using folders as you wish which isn't bad but doesn't allow all the cross referencing possibilities we'll offer.
My pre-beta version is doing this OK already, just waiting to be able to pre audition files in it next I think. I'm just finishing off the Hip Hop tagging and CP before we can encode the entire library and see it work the way it should on a big library. I think Dave and I have got taken by surprise by the browser, it's almost the biggest and best bit of the program when it started off life as pretty much an after thought and has got out of control once we've realised what's necessary to make it what it should and could be.

HI

Are we nearing completion, if not pacify me with a screen shot or something!!!

Porpoise.

Post

The screen shots don't show the stuff that's being finished off now. We're onto the copy protection, tagging implementation and small tweaks in the way things are accessed, etc. at the moment so it's just a matter of getting these done asap behind the scenes. Kick-Ass Brass! is basically done bar a few small GUI tweaks too. I think I'll be starting on the artwork, manual, etc. next week, ONE isn't too far behind.
