Envelope Filter Plugin for bass/guitar

I haven't found a satisfactory envelope filter plugin that responds well to live bass/guitar input. Specifically with bass as the affected frequencies have to be pretty specific to really get that squelch.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I have Fabfilter's Volcano 3 - which I view as my most comprehensive filter plugin. But alas, I'm not sophisticated enough - or familiar with the parameters of a good envelope filter - to design a sound that I'm happy with.

I should add another reason I haven't found a suitable plugin is the response to sensitivity - i.e., the filter should dynamically change based on level/input - whether that is resonance or frequency or both?n8pee wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 4:32 pm I haven't found a satisfactory envelope filter plugin that responds well to live bass/guitar input. Volcano 3 should be great for this. You can add a low pass filter and modulate the filter cutoff with an envelope follower:

I took another stap at creating one that uses a low pass filter, with the freq triggered by 'smooth transients' and didn't find it satisfactory. The 'Hollow' setting sounded best, but still nothing like what I expect a good envelope filter to sound like (comparing my experience to stomp boxes). I also tried having the same transient also pronounce the peak of the resonance, but still not feeling it.SonicDimension wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 3:14 am Volcano 3 should be great for this. I actually think it sounds a bit better using a high pass filter and approaching the signal from the bottom frequencies (with bass).
Anyhow this makes me realize that a good envelope filter isn't as simple as this.

An oldie but a goodie, can usually be found on sale for a tenner or so.;

Never heard anything else to quite match it on guitar or bass. Here's a little demo of my bass VI - first clean DI, then through just the plug-in, at half resonance...

It also has the most bonkers self-oscillation I've ever come across at high resonance settings - all kinds of feedback-y type goodness.Uncle E wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 6:34 pmSounds greatdonkey tugger wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 6:00 pm An oldie but a goodie, can usually be found on sale for a tenner or so.;

I came to the same conclusion, haha.
i even tryed to patch a keytracking in VCV Rack2. Taking a pitch2CV module.
I never arrived to where i hoped i could come.
+1, sounds great !donkey tugger wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 6:00 pm Never heard anything else to quite match it on guitar or bass. Here's a little demo of my bass VI - first clean DI, then through just the plug-in, at half resonance...
