Good Sunday folks,

this week I had a chance to deal with some tests with online programs for automatic music production and I must say that I was relatively surprised. The speed with which a song can be produced from 0 is amazing. On quality - on the other hand - there are still many shortcomings. I have read here on KVR Audio that Roland is moving forward to make arrangements in this very direction.... Then I also wonder if the future of Audio & Midi Software Workstations will change... Will MuLab also integrate alternative (and automatic) functions to create audio samples without having to import them from external libraries ? Do you think that in the not too distant future even plugins and Vsti Instruments (and Vste) will be replaced by the automatic creation of these advanced algorithms ? Personally I do not like to call all this Artificial Intelligence (also because intelligence is something utopian and not feasible on this planet...), so at most it can be written as "Automatic Production and/or Creation...". What do you think about these topics ? Thank you.

I believe it will progress as we have. For example. ...
Midi was huge.
Digital automation was huge. ( remember the day of calling the secretary in to push the mute button because every other person in the building already had both hands on the board ? )

Sooo.....we are just moving much faster now.

I feel new tech will change our workflow in ways we cant even imagine right now......but it will change in a way where there is still profit so there will be devs and businesses to take that profit.

I have had Chat GPT write a few songs for me fod fun. Input that result into Waveform and there are the tracks w melody. I havent used the voice generation or the auto mixing stuff. But as we sit It can already be done.
I imagine background music will all be generated very soon.
Live performance is where the artist will live and flourish.

I can also see film actors being replaced.
Pornstars being replaced.
Etc....
We jumped the fence because it was a fence not be cause the grass was greener.

Hello and welcome.
I doubt if we see the integration of AI into the core structure of DAWs. Large part of media production has a rather strict policy concerning the usage of large language models and machine learning tools due to the copyright risks and these rules will probably become even more strict. We probably see national or even international legislations about training data sometimes in the future. This means that even if the generative LLMs will be integrated (as a third party plugin for example) these will be sandboxed away from main functionality of the DAW. However, what we probably will see more is the integration of (generative) algorithmic compositions tools like added to Ableton Live 12.

What I would like to see is DAWs becoming generally less of a hustle to use. Less latency would be nice. Better cross migration tools would also be great to move from one platform to another. To start a project looping in Live, move over to Logic for linear processing then do a tracking sessions and final mix in Reaper.
