Hi, please have a look at the attached image. It's a plain saw wave going into MSpectralDynamics. As you can see the plugin doesn't present harmonics above 1 kHz, correctly. First, I thought it's a graphic error but unfortunately it's not just that. If you check a spectrum on MMultiAnalyzer (which is located after MSpectralDynamics in the plugin chain), you'll see what MSpectralDynamics is actually doing in this test:
1. It reduces harmonics at the low freq. range leaving the ones higher than 1kHz untouched.
2. You can also notice how uneven the reduction is between harmonics.
3. The reduction graph on MSpectralDynamics doesn't reflect some reduced harmonics.

Are these somethings that can be improved?

Any chance for a min-phase version?

It is due to the smoothing of the peak values.
I agree that an "Analytical smoothing" would be a great addition, like in MAnalyzer... so that each peak represents a real peak level, even if it is smoothed.

Well, the question is what analytical smoothing would do here as side effects. And whether it makes any sense at all? Sure, when you look at plain saw graphs, then yeah, but these rarely make any connection with the practice.

Well, if it can't deal with a static wave, would you trust it with real complex signals? The plug-in is 15+ years old. Maybe it deserves a good overhaul.

I use MSD mostly for ducking, and only occasionally for 'normal' compression, so maybe my use case isn't as demanding as others. I also dont usually use 0 for smoothing and naturality. If it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you. When I am doubting the sound of something, I find that a blind AB test helps me to sort out my assumptions.

My speakers and amplifier can't reproduce static square waves accurately, but yeah, I trust them with complex signals. So, I'm not sure that an a fortiori conclusion is necessarily sound.
