TW12: "Backup edit and project files"

At the bottom-left of the main TW12 editing window, you can select File/Backup edit and project files. Without knowing exactly how that works, it sounded like a wise thing to do. And I would guess that it's a good idea to do it frequently. Does anyone agree?

Anyway, I encountered a problem when I tried to restore my project from the backup created. (Project window/Restore backup). TW crashed when I tried to do that (both times). What might have gone wrong? Many thanks.
