Been intrigued by the hardware modules I’ve seen pop up on Reverb used usually for over £300 each so could be a decent way to check them out.
I really wish there was a way to demo 3rd party modules.
yeah. that'd be nice. i guess best we get are youtube videos... of which there are none yet for these modules

user770 or whatever it was in that thread was me. The noise on the E440 is completely unrelated to FM.

I have to keep my audio interface at 44.1 for OptX (ADAT interface) to work. Running VCV at higher rates with oversampling, even 8x, reduces some of the noise but it's still quite audible.

There’ll probably be an Omni Cohen vid at some point, that may help clarify things a bit

I did see a note that Andrew added

“ We are looking into this issue and will fix it in a future version.”

so, maybe worth holding off on purchase until then if there are noise issues.

Meanwhile the other modules in the lineup that aren't emulations are quite good, at least. :)

The E520 Hyperion Processor would be the real crown jewel to have in VCV though.

I am torn between buying Softube Modular or VCV Rack Pro just for the Synthesis Technology bundle.

There’s a fix in place for an issue in the changelog

“ E440: Fix noise when using high resonance at high cutoff frequencies.”

Having used both, go with VCV... Softube is painful to patch with IMVHO

Do you know how the Synthesis Tech Bundle sounds?

I really like the old E340, but buying "blind" kinda sucks.

Softube Modular sounds excellent and you can try it beforehand....

nvm - video used just the hardware modules

I did a quick search to see if the hardware users who inspired me to get the two ST modules I have were into VCV also, and couldn't find any substantive evidence that would lead me to think that 'they' will be doing a side-by-side any time soon, though I wouldn't discount it entirely either, if they are enthused by them.

Yep, the main noise issue is fixed. There's still some aliasing at the highest frequencies with the highest resonance, but mostly only noticeable with no input, and nobody wants to listen to a self-oscillating filter in those ranges anyway :hihi: Oversampling helps though I had to go to 384kHz to fully quiet it.

i used to own the actual eurorack module and mostly liked how it would do weird stuff when FMing it at audio rates. so, i'm guessing, since it's the same code.. more or less, if it will do the weird bits i like. so, i guess i'm waiting on the demo videos to show up.

Count Modula on the VCV forum posted this up as a first go with the new modules

Watch out as well for when you have a low cutoff with the E440 and push lots of drive into it, there is still something weird going on there, and also there is still noise at high cutoffs, switch to the LP2 to really hear it. Hopefully they can fix it soon.

Even if they do you may be interested in this, which doesn't suffer from any of these issues, and uses less cpu, the Cytomic CF100 Discrete JH OTA module for VCV Rack that is coming out next week. Here are some demos:
