I think I misspoke. Flangers are okay. It's phasers that make that strange whooshing noise.mholloway wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:47 pmRobert Smith of the Cure said he ran his guitar through a flanger (I forget which one, I think a basic cheap Roland one of the era) on every Cure album of the 80s and practically every single song.
But if you can't see a use for flanging, surely he was wrong to do so.

Early Cure was the built-in phaser on Robert's Peavey Musician Mark III amp. In Your House (on Seventeen Seconds), is a prime example. The phaser really makes the song.v1o wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 1:42 amI think I misspoke. Flangers are okay. He also picked up John McGeoch’s MXR M-117 Flanger when he took over guitars for Siouxsie the second time (1982–1984), but I don’t think he made use of it outside of the Banshees or after.
Disintegration is most definitely an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress. It's particularly discernible on Fascination Street and Last Dance.
But mostly, Robert is associated with the classic purple BOSS BF-2, which began production in 1980, and I believe he was using soon after, on Faith and Pornography. The flanger on Primary and the Hanging Garden, among others from those albums, sounds like the BF-2 to me.

An update; Im sure it’s an issue with the stereo version, as the mono, mono to stereo, and dual mono versions don’t crash at all.
Weirdly, there’s also one other quirky behaviour. i’m using it on a CR78 hihat stem. It doesn’t matter if use the mono (left OR right) or stereo stem, no mono or stereo version of the plugin seems to produce a wet signal regardless of the gain settings nor effect settings. Odd since i can move the plugin to another channel and distinctly hear the effect on another source. This occurs for both “years” of the plugin.
Is there also a transient tracking/gating/envelope follower inside the flanger other than the threshold control?

Another update; PA support responded. This may be a Ventura issue as they stated PA is not completely Ventura compatible. Not great news as there is no timeline on compatibility but not terrible as it just means I have to use the mono to stereo version in Logic instead…except not with the CR78 hihat as it doesn’t pass any sound with it at all? (still haven’t figured that out)

Considering they still don't have Apple M1 support for multiple plugins, I'd be worried.theviirus wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 9:25 pm Another update; PA support responded. Just remember they’ve had to do an extensive rebuild since the floods and they are just sold to SoundWide. This is bound to put a delay on a few things.

Many moons ago I had the hardware pedal.
The brainworx pedal went on sale late last year and I got it for next to nothing.
Quite a nice redemptive plug-in since I miss that pedal.

Is the PA one identical to the UAD one?
If yes, why can UAD still ask this silly price.
If no, does the UAD thing sounds better?

They had deals in place with 3rd party developers that have since expired. I don't think they're interested in helping Plugin Alliance or Softube make money at this point, but they also can't just kill off the third-party plugins entirely because many customers bought them. So they get the same crazy high prices they used to get and no longer go on sales. But, I have no insider information. You could try to ask UA, but I don't think they'll give you a better answer.
No.

Also, PA didn't used to be the crazy blow out fest they are today. When they made those UAD plugins, their prices were a little lower than UA's but not by much.
