Not sure how I feel about the sound of loopcloud 5. I have a suspicion it could become cumbersome and slow with so many new features. I'm hoping non-subscribers don't end up with a crippled product.

I may be wrong though and it ends up being the best thing since sliced bread. In saying that, I doubt I'll be subscribing. What with the amount I've already spent with those guys, there's not much on there that I want but don't already own. It'll be nice if there's a discounted rate for current customers.

Here's some info taken from their site;

How is Loopcloud 5 different from Loopcloud 4?

We have improved search, added multi-track editing, Loopcloud instruments, cloud-storage, a whole new prettier user interface, audio effects and much more. There is also a subscription model for advanced features and monthly points. New Inspiration has been replaced with a vast catalogue of free sounds that can be searched directly from the app and downloaded with daily limits which increase with subscription levels but also let free users get 5 per day. See www.Loopcloud.com for full information.

How does searching work in Loopcloud 5?

Searching from anywhere runs a global-search of both the store and your library. And we present a few results to get you started as fast as possible before interleaving 200 store results with your user library results.

You can use the new ‘filter toolbar’ to search only the store or your user library. If you search just the store you’ll get 1000 store results instead of just 200.

The filter toolbar also has an ‘Audio’ button which filters out all the non-audio content (like sampler patches) by default.

Searches now show huge gorgeous rows with pictures and waveforms (a popular request!). You can go back to small rows with loads of results on the screen by clicking the button on the right of the filter toolbar.

The search box now allows you to add tags with auto-complete. You can search entirely using the keyboard without using the mouse if you want. You can type in a number and it will auto-complete the bpm search options as well.

Is there a compact mode?

Make the app narrow and it’ll switch to ‘compact mode’ showing you a reduced set of information in a window size that’ll run alongside your DAW. You can turn always-on-top mode on in preferences and/or have it snap to your screen edge by dragging it to the edge of your screen.

What is Loopcloud Multitrack?

Multi-track is super-cool. You can use it in two main ways:

· As a shortlist of loops or one shots before settling on which one to use in your track.

· As a sound-design tool for making new loops combining multiple sounds.

As a subscriber you get to use 8 tracks at once (the engine supports more but we think 8 should be about right and stops the user interface getting cluttered). Free users get 2 tracks.

You can use it for previewing sounds (in time and in key) just like previous versions of Loopcloud. But you can also rearrange sounds, create new sounds, preview only the sub-sections of audio you want, export those edited sounds and so on.

What are the Loopcloud Effects?

Click FX EDIT with a loop loaded and add effects, with modulation if you like to regions or all of your audio. It’s half-way between DAW automation and effectrix. More effects to come in the next few months but we have 6 in the current build to get you started.

I was afraid things might go in this direction. I love the app ( the last couple updates we awesome) but I've been avoiding subscriptions like the plague.

Post

I saw the words "Free Users" in there so I'm satisfied. This sounds amazing honestly and the app is already way too powerful to be free if we're being honest.

I really like LoopCloud 4 as a way to organize my samples and this looks like a cool update, but the cheapest plan gives you 100 credits a month which is only enough for 4 to 6 samples, which does not seem like a good value. You do get 10 free sounds a day so maybe that makes up for it.

It looks like the credits are now called points and buying a single sound seems to cost 1 point for one-shots and 2 points for loops. You can also still buy points without subscription.

The inability as a free user to make/save your own patterns and change pitch makes it redundant as a sampler, especially when it's so easy to do in most modern DAW with their inbuilt samplers or even with free samplers on the market and it's certainly not worth paying the subscription for, so it really relegates LC to just a sample manager for free users, but probably the best sample manager on the market so there's that :)

I don't see any value in the subscription though ? If I want a sample pack/samples I'd rather just pay straight cash instead of buying tokens to then spend on what I want and cloud storage, well if I want that I'd buy cheaper from an actual storage provider like dropbox, AWS and google, for instance I can get 2TB storage for £7.99 a month at dropbox.

Yes you get credits but 300 @ £9.99 seems poor value especially when most full packs cost close to 1,000 credits, maybe the value lies in the 20 free sounds a day ? If it's from any pack in their entire library then 560 samples a month seems okay I guess ?

While it's awesome they kept the free option available, being able to preview a ridiculously small amount of sounds after this update puts me right off. I understand the point that offering unlimited previewing of sounds (streaming) is costly, and of course unlimited previewing might have affected their sales on full packs when people felt the content does not match with the price after listening them through, but who knows. Still feels they are just shooting themselves in the leg with this.

Personally I have absolutely no use for the additional things they are now offering, such as storage or plugins. That's what I liked most about the previous model - no unnecessary stuff, just points/credits and sounds, and it was possible to buy them whenever you needed / had the money. Of course the monthly subscription prices are on the same level, and maybe even a bit less, than with other services, but I still feel a lot has been crippled from version 4 regarding a basic user. Of course expanding the "free sounds" option (if I have understood correctly) to include more packs is a nice addition.

Until now I though Loopmasters had the nicest and most useful approach considering these kind of services, but after pushing the subscription model offering the possibility to buy points only for studio and pro tier customers, losing the possibility to preview (a reasonable amount of) sounds, and all the other stuff I don't need, unfortunately drives me towards other services.

Yeah, as Reefius pointed out they now have 1 or 2 points per sound, so max 50 to 100 sounds with 100 credits/points depending on what you download.

I have to test it first but for me this update seems like miss instead of hit..

Hi Guys this is Matt from Loopmasters/Loopcloud and i hope you are all doing well.

Its interesting to read your feedback on Loopcloud 5, and all of your opinions are of course very valid.

We have really tried very hard to make something unique and impressive and I truly hope that i can persuade you all to check it out properly before you make your decisions. In order to do that there is a free trial for a month, and we give you 300 credits to spend in that time also, with a fully functioning loopcloud where you can use and edit all the effects, create and save patterns, check out the cloud storage, pitch and save samples and patterns and browse through all of our sample packs.

Yes, you do need to add your credit card details, but you only need to set a reminder on your phone or diary for a couple of day before the end of the trial and click cancel from your account area and we will not take a brass cent from you. Why not just give it a try, play with those patterns and see what can be done, add effects, try creating complex edits and syncing everything to the daw, and of course as usual see how any purchases of full blown products at loopmasters.com appear in your library. Check out the free sounds (over 25,000 to choose from) and download up to 20 per day and have no restrictions on your previewing..

I understand in this day and age it pays to be skeptical and perhaps what we have designed isn't for everyone, but in order to build something impressive and progressive we have to create a model that allows for this, we hope you understand and that if subscription isn't for you that you sill utilise the free version in combination with your own sounds and those you buy from Loopmasters.com

We are hugely proud of this release, and only ask that you give it a proper chance!

I will also monitor the thread here in case any of you have questions for me.

Matt

it feels like the new version is a solution looking for a problem.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.
