And then there's Camel alumnus Pete Bardens' "Seen One Earth" (1987). I never liked it much in the 1980s, but it has a charming retro vibe to me now.

And I forgot about Steve Roach in my first list - his '80s releases are very much of its time. And Michael Stearns has a nice space album, "Encounter" (1988).

A lot of children’s music surprisingly used synths in the 70’s. Mostly cheap stuff like Korg M-500 and Roland SH-2000 and other preset synths. Check out Anne Murray’s Teddy Bear Picnic with all the ARP Odyssey/2600 multitracking though, may be kids music, but those synths are quite out there for the time.
Also, something that goes unnoticed a lot in the 70’s is Z movie music with synths in it.
Look up the genres Italo Disco, Hi NRG, and Stock Aitken Waterman/SAW (not technically a genre, but good to listen to for synths, especially DX7, D-50 and JX-10).
Many paid and free VSTs as well as Kontakt libraries. As well as HW synths/drum machine and acoustic instruments.

I also forgot to mention Manthous. A little late into the 80’s into the early 90’s though, he knew how to program synths really well, especially FM. Look up Manthous CSGK or Nur Afni Octavia or Manthous Campursari. He was a pioneer in the Campursari genre, which some say he invented. Unfortunately, he died a few years ago, but there are still many videos of his music and his cassettes. Some nice synth tones that you don’t hear every day.

Just about everyone who self-released a bedroom recorded cassette in the 80s. In Aeternam Vale, Hard Corps, Das Ding... The Minimal Wave label is an absolute treasure trove of this stuff. Tons of excellent archive releases and compilations.

Ooh, and don't forget Italo-disco. Loads of fantastic tracks came out of that scene.

Donna Summer's 1977 "I Feel Love" (the 12" disco mix) is solidly glorious Giorgio Moroder Moog-age.

A huge influence.

Also, Bernie Worrell's Minimoog work on Funkadelic's 70s stuff. If he didn't invent the synth bass line, he certainly perfected it.

At this rate we wil get to Stock, Atkien & Waterman... They also used synths....(but like the acts above, they didn’t make ‘synth music’)
