I'm trying to install the latest demo on the Mac 10.5.8. It goes thru all the motions and indicates a successful install, but no files are actually written to the VST or Components directories.

Maybe you are not running as "administrator" user? That might be it!irvg wrote:I'm trying to install the latest demo on the Mac 10.5.8. It goes thru all the motions and indicates a successful install, but no files are actually written to the VST or Components directories.
During installation, and during the "first" run, please run as "administrator"

I am running as admin and I haven't had this problem with any other installers.

I found the files: they are all in the root directory of the hard drive, instead of the vst and component folders where they are supposed to be. When I tried opening them in Live, I got an error message that a log file couldn't be written. I also have no idea where the preset folders are supposed to go. This installer is definitely not working - maybe go back to a manual install while you're working out the bugs.

I believe that's a bug with PackageMaker. I'll investigate itirvg wrote:I found the files: they are all in the root directory of the hard drive, instead of the vst and component folders where they are supposed to be. Elsewhere in this forum, I found this regarding Packagemaker:
"Hi,
Package Maker (and Installer as well) is well known for being buggy and act in different way depending on what version of Mac OSX the user is running.
I encountered same kind of problem when I tried to change the install location of one package inside a meta package.
It worked fine on 10.6 but not on 10.5.
I don't know if you have the same problem but I found a workaround here.
Hope this helps
Best

The link to the workaround is here:

Hope this helps. It definitely seems to be the problem. You are probably running 10.6 but I'm running 10.5

Hi Bulent.,
There may be another problem with PackageMaker. When installed on 10.6 with the latest version (although I vaguely remember something like this happening on an older version), the /Library/App Support/KV331/Synthmaster folder was inaccessible and threw up an error when scanned by Live because it couldn't write to the folder. (EDIT: just noticed that this did happen to the OP as well).
I looked at the permissions and they were screwy: no owner (I didn't know that was possible), group wheel(20) and I think the permission bits were 700. I set them to the usual root(0), admin(80), 755 combo by hand so I think it's sorted on this systems. But it might be useful to know when tracking down the fault in PackageMaker.

On 10.5 there was also an error writing to a log file, but that was probably because it wasn't installed in the right location (together with all the other files).

Guys I will switch to this for the installer:
http://s.sudre.free.fr/Software/Iceberg.html
I'll need you guys as volunteers to test it out though, before releasing "final" release
Another thing I should probably do:
SynthMaster writes to the following files/folders:
Config\SynthMasterConfig.txt
Logs\SynthMasterLog.txt
Resources\UserWaveforms\WaveformCache
Resources\UserWaveforms\WavetableCache
Resources\FactoryWaveforms\WaveformCache
Resources\FactoryWaveforms\WavetableCache
It might be a wise idea to move then under <user home>\SynthMaster root, because the user will have write access there.
