The developement of new sample libraries for the stunning Waldorf Blofeld w/License SL is again in progress. Now we have released two new sample libraries:

Waldorf Blofeld: Kunstsprech

Breathy voices, classical male tenor modulations, vocoder speech, computer voices, toons, exotic phrases and more. Over 60 samples of weird and eerie voices, choirs, vocal sound effects as a human factor for the Blofeld sound world. Total sample content 12 MB.

Waldorf Blofeld: Unterwelt
Sounds from the underworld. Mystic and spheric long scenes with evolving moments. This could be the home of Blofeld himself. Created with an arsenal of analog and digital sound sources and mixed for ready-to-use. 30 dramatic samples and a content of 80 MB.

Hi musikmachine,

thanks for the interest in our Blofeld sample libraries. Currently we are in progress with more sample libraries for the Blofeld License SL and keyboard version as well as the audio tracks production. When this is done they will appear on the website product page and promoted with a news message here. You can also drop a line at info@backintimerecords to register for our newsletter.

This is "timely" as I just went to get any/all the OS updates and anything-else for the Blofeld keyboard, for a friend, and the "License SL", and the "Spectre" (spl?) which allows/enables you to load it links are both dead, on Waldorfs site.

Are these things still available, or is it a dead/unsupported product???

Thanks

Hi Shabdahbriah,

Blofeld accessories dead products? I don't think so, actually the Spectre sample manager software and the License SL are pretty new. The keyboard is already equipped with the 60 MB flash ROM and the Blofeld desktop version must be upgraded with the License SL to allow sample load. The Spectre software is a free download and runs on your computer even when no Blofeld is connected via USB. You can try the functions, load samples, edit key range and root key, save in the Blofeld formats, etc.

Ok i'm just stuck on what set to get first. It's really hard to choose without any kinda demo clips. I like the sound of the vocals but then the osc waveforms look really good. But do they sound like the hw they are sampled from when loaded into the blofeld? I'm not expecting perfect emulations but some ms20 bass would be niiice! :D

Also what are the attack samples intended for? At first i thought it was samples from the rack attack but is it just short hits and blips for creating drum hits etc?

Sorry for all the questions but there's so much stuff there and it looks enticing!

Hi musikmachine,

don't worry, ask your questions, you are welcome.

Yes, audio tracks make it easier to get an impression about the sample libraries and as soon as they are uploaded and the website is updated with the links you can listen to them.

As far to my experiences with the Blofeld the loaded samples sound same as they are as original WAV. With the right waveforms a decent MS20 bass should be done very easy.

The Attack Samples are something special. If you remember the typical 80s sample-based synths like D50 and others it was common to have the pure attack portion of an acoustic or electric instrument as sample to combine it with synth waveforms like sawtooth, pulse, etc. The sound result is rather unique and when you read the Blofeld owner's manual or the Spectre manual exactly this option is mentioned when they talk about the License SL. In addition with the Arpeggiator you can even load drums and percussions for really cool beats.

Thanks Klaus

Can i just check, does sustain looped mean single cycle waveforms that are sustained for as long as long as the note is held? Or does that mean there are both types in the set?

Yeah i've loaded some drums and been jamming with them. I hope waldorf add a pitch mode to the arp, this will be great for drumlines. That's one of the reasons i wanted the sample option. I still can't decide which set to start with looking through all the samples. I'll probably end up getting all of them but i want to get the right combination to begin with. How big are the sets; is there room to add my own samples? from different sets into another? I assume not because of the format.

Anyway that's enough questions! Cheers

Btw reason i am asking all these questions is i want to use the blofeld with my mpc. I'd like a failry versatile set that contains good source material for basses leads and pads. Really a multisample set that contained sampled percussion as well would be good but i will use the mpc for the drums for the time being until you release those demos.

Hi musikmachine,

indeed sustain-looped means the tone holds as long as you press a note on the keyboard. The size of the samples is intentionally small, the goal is that many samples as possible should fit into the Flash ROM. For instance the entire set "Blofeld Kunstsprech" is about 10 MBs.

Thanks Klaus. :)

Are all sets equally small for quick loading times? I think i'll start with wellenformen 1 as it contains a wide range of sounds then i can get an idea of what the other sets will be like. are the vocals keymapped across the octaves? What do the abbreviations AL and AX etc stand for before the sample names?

Cheers!

edit: I read the info above and see that the other set is somewhat larger. Also i ordered the wellenformen set but i can't access my email account that i used in the order. It's my isp account and sometimes the service is a bit flaky. Do you send download links to the email adress? What shall i do if i can't access it? Cheers.

Hi musikmachine,

our current concept for Blofeld sample libraries is to provide small sized samples. Here is the total size of each library:

Wellenformen #1 16 MB
Wellenformen #2 13 MB
Attack Samples 28 MB
Kunstsprech 11 MB
Unterwelt 60 MB

The Wellenformen #1 are one-shots, no multisamples. The Wellenformen #2 are multisamples.

The AL and AX are abbreviations of the full names Alex and Axel, both are singers (classical tenor, pop artist) and we sampled their voices for our vocal sample libraries.

When you purchase Bloeld sample libraries you will receive download links.
