I'm considering the two Bobby Owsinski books, but would like to consider other suggestions before making the final choice.

Please share if you've got a favorite you think I should look at?

I can warmly recommend his books :) They're really good.

Bob Katz's book is really good too. I don't have a link but do a Google search for him and it'll come right up.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
Think its gonna be Bobby under the xmas tree this year :D

Get "Mixing with your Mind". Its a killer.

i'd also recommend "Behind the Glass", which is basically just in-depth interviews with heaps of producers.

I can recommend it also to everyone for music production. It's a killer book worth at least ten times more than it costs.

Bob Katz is a MUST. It's even better than Owsinski's, even though that one is great as well.

I've read most of the 'standard" books on the subject, and they're great, especially the Owsinski ones.

That said, there are two video tutorials (one for beginners, the other aimed at intermediate/ advanced) that I believe have an advantage over books and even CDs, because you can see and hear the mixing process using many popular hosts and plug ins, so they're DAW-centric, and the principles can be applied to your own setup. The books, as good as they are, can't take you "into the studio" like these videos can.

Here are the links:

The above is aimed at beginners, so if you're fairly new to recording, or feel there are gaps in your knowledge, it's a good "foundation" course. The price is $35.00 ($25.00 to returning customers).

At $135 (at time of this writing), it's pretty steep for a hobbyist, but IMO well worth it. The engineer, Charles Dye, uses Pro Tools for the lessons, but, again, the principles can be applied to any DAW-based setup. I don't own this one yet, but saw about 10 min. of it, and learned quite a bit in that period of time, so it's now on my "to buy" list.

I'm not affiliated with the individuals who created these courses - just thought I'd pass these discoveries along.

Hope this was helpful to someone. :)
