Any science to explain the “weight” or “3D depth” of hardware audio vs software that some people claim?

i dont think it needs science, you can hear the difference
err prolly one of the worst blind tests ever. One is stereo, one is mono... guess we know which one is the soft synth.

Edit: also I've done this type of thing with Diva and a synth it doesn't even emulate (ax60) and got closer than this.

forgot about stereo/mono, but one of these is serum so not analog modelled, im sure diva would sound closer, i wasnt trying to make them the exact same but apparently some guy couldnt tell any difference, i agree that theyre not that close

They were by no means the first to do this…

Thinking about more formal approaches, a scheme developed from a proposal by Michael Gerzon (Ambisonics, etc.) is applied by the Waves PS22 plug-ins.
