It's not even close, there isn't anything comparable to any of the libraries I mentioned. You get at most libraries as good as what was available 20 years ago.enroe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 9:38 amWith a little effort, searching and compiling your own libraries, you canmachinesworking wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 9:25 am Let me know when you find orchestral libraries as good as Cinesamples, Sound Iron, EastWest, VSL, Spitfire etc. etc. etc. all using proprietary software because frankly the "free" stuff just doesn't cut it when it comes to scripting and keyswitching etc.
have great orchestra sounds. However, if you want the VSL possibilities,
e.g. definable legato speed in real time - then the VSL library is unique,
you're right.
Of course, it is always a question of weighing up the possibilities.
So the attempt at shaming people who use "proprietary software" in any way shape or form was some low tier uninformed virtue signaling.

Here we have different opinions. I'm just pointing out that I believe that using "proprietary software" comes
with a hefty price tag. And that's not just the price you pay directly. No, it
is also the much higher price that you never never own this software or
library.

Your opinion is based on feelings not facts. Fact, nothing free is as complex and full featured as Opus, VSL etc. You're being the typical I CAN'T BE WRONG person. It's OK learn from it, trying to cover it up just makes you look silly.enroe wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 8:36 amHere we have different opinions. Then why are you trying to? Software licensing is a strange thing indeed, but in no way can any library developer come in and uninstall a library on a compatible computer. It's just a way of preventing lawsuits, it's not as draconian as the Linux crowd makes it out to be.I don't want to shame anyone.

This is a total first world problem and that can't be denied, M1 Macs and Windows 11 are breaking older software, but it's not like it doesn't work on the hardware it's currently installed on. We end users want development to continue to make it work on newer machines, and in that way the free software world is just as guilty. I've lost as many free plug ins to changes in the OS etc. as I have paid ones, honestly if you include stand alone Max patches, a lot more free stuff. Developers of free stuff are just as likely to get a new job that takes their time away from upkeep on a plug in as outfits like NI. Only a few free plug ins developers I know of have a rigid schedule of upkeep.

@machinesworking: Thank you, machinesworking! I think everyone got
your point; You don't need to repeat this over and over again.

I understand very well that anyone who has bought a lot of NI
plugins and samples wants to feel "good" with them, wants
to justify these purchases to themselves, and also uses them
to define themselves a bit. That's the human psyche.
I just point out that ...
1. this psychological identification becomes fragile and
even reversed if "so important" software suddenly can no
longer be installed. And we don't know what else we can
expect from orphaned software.
2. there are - and this is the good news - with a little will in
the freeware area just as good possibilities for sounds and
plugins. Of course, every die-hard NI user will vehemently
fight the latter (as is also very nicely demonstrated here in
the thread).
My conclusion is that it is up to everyone how dependent they
want to be on the goodwill of any company. And with every
purchase, everyone should always have in mind whether they
want their studio environment to be sustainable and durable -
or whether they want it to be destructive in the short term.
The latter also has "something".

Hello guys
I made some presets for Arturia B3 using the Native Instruments B4 as a base. It can be a good option for those who want to migrate because the sound turned out to be surprisingly similar in some settings and in the context of mixing! Hope you enjoy! Hugs

NI have become serial-abandoners, just like Izotope who they joined forces with. Birds of a feather........
NI were my favourite developer, and I currently own 8 bits of NI hardware, as well as Komplete. I own Izotope advanced, Neutron advanced, RX etc......but when they just discontinue things like this, they completely lose me as a customer. It works both ways.
I'll continue to use what I bought, and bounce everything to audio because I now trust neither of these companies and they'll never get another penny from me for treating my customer loyalty with such contempt.
I was always against warez, but I completely understand when I see things like this, why people go that route.
