For me the best reason is that so far neither plugin nor DAW developers seem to be frustrated or confused by it.
the old free version may not work boots successfully on new generations of computers, instruments, and hardware

I would like to see Note Expression, CLAP and MTS-ESP support in Waveform and it's virtual instruments. I am already a big fan of Waveform as I am a Linux user, it along with Reaper and Bitwig satisfy all my needs, However if Waveform added any combo of Note Expression, CLAP and MTS-ESP support it would blow my socks off.

If you're on Linux, you have Linux plugins + most Windows plugins including vst3 thanks to linvst. What do you ever need Clap for?

CLAP, on top of being an open source format brings a shit ton of interesting features like polyphonic modulations and voice stacking. You may not use them but they rock....

Just to add to this. CLAP is free, open source and under a MIT license.

Plus... AudioThing pretty much ported all of their plugins to CLAP... and they've answered the question:
So, why do we need yet another plugin format? With the current major plugin formats, developers need to sign contracts with unilateral clauses for cancellation, or restrictive NDAs. Proprietary formats are rarely updated taking into account feedback from developers. Proprietary formats can be discontinued without notice.
CLAP, instead, is open source, liberally licensed, modern, and, on top of that, has some really cool features not available to other formats.
Give yourself the opportunity to discover something.
