How do you get this glitchy time stretch vocal effect (Pretty Lights)? Thanks

There are other instances of this effect in this live track as well as different versions at other recent shows, but the premise is obviously the same.
Thank you for any assistance!

Easiest way without buying an AKAI sampler and use cyclic mode.

Stand alone non VST windows I think, import, process, audition.

Use timestretch mode, cyclic in TAL which is the same thing as cyclic mode on the AKAI samplers. Probably other ways that you can stumble on in certain plug ins and synths that cna import audio but the above easiest and least cost.

I love TAL bassline, so I will give this a go! Thanks so much. Do you know if Ableton's full sampler can do similar? Thanks again!

This video shows how to get similar sounds in Ableton

Which DAW are you using? You can do that in the FL Sampler with the Pitch knob.

Ableton. I think I’m gonna upgrade to suite. May try both TAL sampler and Ableton Sampler and see what works best.

Forgot to say I was also able to do this with the free Khz Pitch Shifter. I was also able to automate an envelope that made the pitch higher or lower along a scale as the music played. It was a huge help to achieve what I wanted.

Awesome man. Thanks for the heads up about freeware. will give it a shot and see what sounds I can get!

After listening more closely to the Pretty Lights track linked by WindMonk, I think the tempo/speed of the speech sample is slowed down in real-time. The slowed down effect is applied only to some specific words of the speech and the amount of slow down varies in different parts of the track. There might be also a slight pitch change effect at the same time, but I'm not sure about that. It sounds like most of the effect is just slowing down without changing pitch.

In TAL sampler the stretch setting in cyclic mode produces the 'Akai' stretching sound, but I could not adjust it in real-time while the sample is playing. I'm not that familiar with TAL sampler, just trying the demo. I might have missed something.

Also in Ableton, it seems to be impossible to adjust sample warp bpm in real-time. You could automate the project tempo, but that would affect all tracks, not just the track playing the speech sample.

In Kontakt I was able the get that real-time speed adjustment effect. Something similar to Pretty Lights style sound can be achieved by using 'Time Machine 1' sample playback mode with 'High Quality' disabled and setting the 'Smooth' to some low value.
With MIDI Pitch Bend controlling the 'Speed' you can easily apply the effect at specific words in real-time while the sample is playing.

Here is an audio example using Kontakt, first with the effect applied in real-time, then without the effect:

This thread is a bit old already, but I would try pitch down the audio and add a stutter effect with volume automation. You can do this with auto-pan in ableton. You may want to add coloration with something like the TAL sampler DAC thing but that would maybe make a 5% difference in the sound. Experiment with other effect like delay modulation is always insteresting especially on vocals.

bluesawsq - thanks for the experimentation. Yes. I think you are right. I am not able to get the random factor of speed with just TAL sampler demo either. I will try Kontakt as you suggest. Great idea. I will report back when I get a chance to work on the project again this week.
