Is my ES-3 D.O.A.?

Greetings! I just purchased a (as far as I'm aware) new ES-3 mk4. But unfortunately it doesn't seem to function. When I power it on, the 8 output jacks briefly flash red then nothing. When I plug the toslink cable in, nothing happens or lights up. I tested the signal from the cable by plugging it into my sound bar and that seems to work fine. I'm assuming I should be seeming some more activity on the ES-3. Is she dead?

Upon further investigation, I'm apparently sending the ES-3 spdif and not adat. Unfortunately I thought it was the same thing. So I assume that's why it's not working. Doh!
