How to update old Mac to 10.12.6?

Only you have at some point used your apple id to download 10.12.X on a machine you won't see it in the app store.
There was a time when you could buy discontinued OS's from Apple but i am not sure if you still can.

DosDude1 does an awesome set of tools that will allow you to install macOS 10.12/10.13/10.14/10.15 on 'unsupported' models (I used to to get 10.13 on a 2009 macpro - worked great). Those tools also allow you to explicitly download a specific version of MacOS as opposed to the app store edict of 'thou shalt upgrade to the latest release' - again used that a few times to install 10.13/10.14 after 10.15 came out
