Kindly "forcing" unsigned AU/VST3/VST plugins to work on Catalina

This interesting article :
https://rogueamoeba.com/support/knowled ... udio-Units
is about "forcing" your old, good, legacy unsigned AU plugins to work on Catalina (as happened with all macOS up to Mojave). Just temporarily disabling "GateKeeper".
- Anyone had experiences with this procedure ?
- Does it work fine on your Catalina Mac ?
- Does it work for your VST2 and VST3 plugins too ?
Any comment about this would be precious for both users and developers...

One thing that jumped out at me from reading this is near the end:xhunaudio wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 10:22 am This interesting article :

"Please note that this will only last until you reboot your Mac. At that point, the plugins will again be unavailable, and you'll need to run through this sequence again."
It might work but for a user that's kind of a pain. If there is an old plugin you must use (say in a remix from archive) this may be a good temporary solution just so you can bounce it out, etc.

Yes, you should repeat the (3 commands) procedure at each reboot. I'm just guessing if that works fine...
And by permanently disabling GateKeeper you have to do that only once (it seems so). About this, another interesting read is : http://osxdaily.com/2016/09/27/allow-ap ... atekeeper/
Anyone used this 2 methods successfully ?

I found out today, that you can go to the security setting after you've tried to run a rejected installer, it will show the last failure and ask if you want to run it or not.

Thank you David for your hint.
The important aspect is that plugins (in this case contained in the package) are then correctly loaded in the DAW/Host and that they run fine (with no Apple GateKeeper blocks)...

‘Gamification‘ is the term - Though I never thought I’d see it in an OS.
Making it harder and harder to do something is the pseudo-psychology behind it, i believe.

A new OS concept, indeed. If you want to run anything on Catalina, you have to deserve it. Follow the clues...

What worries me little, is that while we strive to make everything ‘Catalina,’ a previous OS version will have compatibility issues. But I guess we’ve always faced that one.

And other "compatibility issues" will be introduced in the months/years to come (as announced).
For this reason it would be interesting to know (if someone will give his/her feedbacks about this) if there's any valid "workaround" to disable the legacy software block. Operating at the OS settings level, instead of changing everything, recompile, wait a few months just to re-change everything again - and so on...
Anyone (macOS Catalina user) had succeeded with the 2 methods I mentioned above (in my previous posts) ?

Our stuff now works in 10.15 and in 10.7., linking to 10.9 SDK. Not worried too much. Keep a machine with High Sierra around, patch Xcode the usual ways and you're good.
(I do worry a lot about being forced into some kind of App Store, but unlike others, I interpret the whole Catalina thing as a commitment to independent software sales)

This shows, that more security which adds any load on the user, in the end will consequently be much less secure!xhunaudio wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 6:42 pm And by permanently disabling GateKeeper you have to do that only once (it seems so). As long I have a choice as user, and I take responsibility for my risk by just being asked. All is fine. If I am forced to only get around by disabling security completely and have no option to choose my personal security level, most users just switch it off. (Which renders the aid against piracy useless as well...)
I suspect minimum 4 years until I switch to anything higher than Mojave... It might even be, that my music software will reside in a VM for the rest of my life, unless Linux starts off finally...

Also, by disabling Gatekeeper, you won't make your macOS dangerously "unsecure". In that case macOS would be just as secure as it had been for many, many years until Catalina.
After all - how many of you seriously think that Apple started introducing this big change (with Catalina) because of a "macOS security" reason (as claimed by Apple itself) ?

So, any macOS Catalina user out there ?
This "trick" : https://rogueamoeba.com/support/knowled ... udio-Units
Or this "trick" : http://osxdaily.com/2016/09/27/allow-ap ... atekeeper/
Any feedback ? Does any of these 2 "tricks" work with your Catalina OS ?
