Hey all,

I'm looking for an AMD Radeon graphics card that is quiet or silent and doesn't come with a huge price tag - and it must handle 3440x1440 (ultrawide). I will not do any gaming on my DAW machine.
Any suggestions?

The monitor I'm looking to buy can do 3440x1440@100 Hz so doesn't hurt if the graphics card can run 3440x1440 in 100 Hz as well. But it isn't a must..

Any suggestions?

What's the point of 100 Hz if you're not into gaming?

Other than that, any card with DisplayPort will do.

Easier to the eyes and looks better, like mouse pointer not having trails when doing quick moves, for example.

I'm looking for a proven quiet card.

Thanks, I have been looking at RX 5xx series.
But are all of them really considered quiet?

I have old Geforce 460 and 560 TI today and they are not quiet at all. I am downclocking to be OK with the noise. Still not good.

This is nonsense, you probably got used to poor LED matrices from 15 years ago... Not related to refresh rate at all.

Many display engines are capped at 60 FPS, anyway. For instance Ableton was only recently updated to run at 60 FPS instead of previous 30...

According to LinusTechTips and others it is quite noticable.

"Even with home/office/workstation use, a higher refresh rate dramatically increases the amount of still images we are shown as something moves across the screen - including mouse cursor, windows etc. "

Anyways, it is concessus that it is easier for the eyes. Have you compared yourself side by side? If you cant see any difference, good for you. Less expensive for you.

Any DP card will do you say, are you claiming that all DP cards have the same fans and functions and are equally silent/loud? :)

I don't use Ableton. Does it not use the same rate as specified in the driver settings in the OS?
Its not the same thing? If you cap the content your monitor is still working in 100 Hz, which is noticable if you compare 60 Hz vs 100 Hz. Atleast I can see it.

I use Bitwig and Cubase in Windows, but it doesn't matter.

Technically ALL RX5xx series should have "ZERO RPM fan", the fan only
turn on when HOT like doing 3D/gaming, but your mileage may vary...
Ask the manufacturer support if the model you want have
ZERO RPM/fan-stop mode.

The XFX Radeon RX 570 4 GB RS is at promotion for $99

And it got something called "Zero dB Auto Load Sensing Fans"

Another option can be a FANLESS card like the
MSI GeForce GT 1030 2 GB 2GH LP OC for $88

For NVIDIA cards must set "Power management mode" from
"Adaptive" to "Maximum Performance."

Ah, thank you. Good info!

I was surprised recently by just how quiet my new RX-570 is - it does indeed have a zero-rpm fan most of the time. I bought the “MSI Armor” variety because it was cheapest. Good luck with your quiet quest!
