Interesting sound (not sure how to re-create)

How to make that sound...

I've rather new to sound design (still learning), and I found this interesting sound in an older Noisia song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVBIm24fU0), It's some kind of squelchy lead/pluck (not sure which). This sound first emerges 22 seconds into the song but is best heard 45 seconds into the song. The closest I have gotten to this sound is a bandpassed (in mid) square with a little portamento (however it's still not very good/close to the original). Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Sync that square and you're imho pretty much there. (Bit of chorus or other modulation to the output to soften it might help too.)

This can be done in something like serum very well by using the same envelope for pitch volume and filter

You pitch up the sound on the way up and pitch down for the second sound(or second half)
Same thing for the filter and volume
maybe even do it in two separate instances.
A saw wave will work but a pulse or whatever will work too. once you add some FX like chorus distortion OTT it will sound very close.

Let me know if I sound like a mumbling idiot and I'll explain further or read it back and rewrite it to make sense.

CHOOS, you may need to elaborate further (sorry to be annoying). What do you mean by two separate instances (I'm assuming you mean opening up the vst twice)? I've also tried what you have said and have not gotten a similar sound. I'm actually using surge not serum so yea if this wastes your time I'm sorry. Thanks!
