Plugin for depth (essentially a BP filter)

I just watched a MixBus TV video (great presenter BTW) on spatial depth where he explained the sense of depth is achieved mainly by EQ and not reverb. Thinking about it and it’s quite enlightening really as I always prioritised reverb and then EQ.
So rather than automate the HP and LP EQs on every one of my tracks (I’ll be there for days), is there a simple plugin that has one dial called depth. Turn it and the BP filter narrows, wind it back and it’s full audio spectrum.
I should emphasise this isn’t as simple as deciding on a fixed centre frequency as I’m sure the ear is a little more complicated than that.

Are you talking about automated LFO?
I haven't used it like this, but when I need movement I grab for TB Module

The only think I really do in terms of constant automatic movement is give a 50% panning swing to a secondary track that's stuck at center, typically keys. But with module you can automate a few different things. You can download the plugins as a bundle to demo. And checkout the presets for a lot of prewired movement options. Takes a moment to understand, but it's easy enough if you give it 15 mins.

Melda MBandpass. It’s pretty simple, and has multiparameter automation along with modulation. It also has variable cutoff curves and is free (sorta).
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

The moral of the story is that you could setup a multiparameter called “depth”, that would do whatever you want. So it would cut the highs and lows and move the center frequency over the range of the control, and also do things like turn up the overall signal a bit to make up the loss of signal, or blend between the filtered and Unfiltered signal etc.

Not quite what you asked for, but TDR has a free plugin called Proximity that does all sorts of psychoacoustic stuff to simulate a sense of depth. You can turn the individual effects on and off as you like.

You might be looking for a tilt eq, like the Tonelux Tilt from Softube. 6 or 12 db hp and lp and then a tilt knob that essentially works like a brighter or darker. You can flip this action to boost either highs and lows or mids instead of the normal tilt action. Really practical, simple plug-in.

This looks exactly like what I asked forilmai wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:19 am Not quite what you asked for, but TDR has a free plugin called Proximity that does all sorts of psychoacoustic stuff to simulate a sense of depth. You can turn the individual effects on and off as you like.

Will give it a try today.
Re the other responses mentioning automating an LFO this isn’t really what I’m after. Of course this is possible but it will be an incredibly basic approximation that doesn’t take into consideration true psycho-acoustic principles. And that’s the exact problem, I can’t explain these because I don’t know what they are.
For example, what is the rolloff slope on the bass and by how much does it vary each metre/foot. The same with the treble which will have a different slope. Neither of which will be linear.
The two I have shortlisted are Proximity (above) and 2c Audio’s Precedence.

The CM version of Panagement by Auburn Sounds might be worth a bash, if you can track it down!

Thanks. Just watched the video on silent but that was enough to notice the distance control and the crescent shaped proximity locator.andymcbain wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 12:56 pm The CM version of Panagement by Auburn Sounds might be worth a bash, if you can track it down!

I do have a CM subscription so will try it later today.

If you change your mind and want to roll your own, Cytomic's The Drop should be great for this as it has Shift and Spread knobs for controlling the two filters together, as well as some modulation options and MIDI in for controlling it.
The Melda solution mentioned above will most likely be a lot more flexible, but I don't know how great their filters are, whereas The Drop is the one plugin I'd give a blanket recommendation regardless of the music you make.

Hello, Panagement 1 is essentially a bandpass since it combines one low-shelf and one high-shelf to simulate distance.andymcbain wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 12:56 pm The CM version of Panagement by Auburn Sounds might be worth a bash, if you can track it down!

Be sure to check out Panagement 2 which enhance the formula with automatic early reflections / late reflections / delay with reverb injection.
