I'm so glad I gave up on piano lessons a long time ago...
I once went to a concert with a friend. It was one of his favorite bands, but I wasn't familiar with them. As he was telling me about all the individual band members, he mentioned their long-haired shirtless drummer, Thor. I figured that was just a pretentious stage name. My friend said no, that's his real name!

I have to say, Thor is the coolest real name for a drummer I've ever heard.

But wouldn't calling oneself Hercules make it difficult to find a teacher?

Hercules was brought up at the court of his supposed-father Amphitryon, where he had the best tutors in the land who taught him wrestling, horseback riding, fencing, archery, how to drive a chariot, play the lyre, and sing. Hercules did not know his own strength, however, and killed his music teacher, Linus, by hitting him with a lyre one day during an argument.

I recall once having an LP of Ernesto Nazareth pieces played by Joshua Rifkin. Here's Hercules' version of one of my favorites:

To do what the song needs, simple as this, or more than this,

is a sign of a good musician. And when you hear the intro guitar you just know which song it is.
