I grew through my teens with them. So many memories associated with their music.. God I'm old.
He will be missed and remembered, at least by me. Rest n peace.

I just read the story. Very sad to hear. I was listening to a little more of them recently when I found the release of a live record from late 70s performance on Spotify. Very good live performances and highly recommend for any Cars music fans out there.

The Cars were a great band back in the day, RIP Ric.

Good memories. We would play 'The Cars' and 'Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark' over and over. Those were the days.

As sad as it is to lose these musicians, I have to admit this one hits me hard. I've been a huge Cars fan since the late 70's. They were always, and still are, my second favourite band after The Beatles. I've been lucky enough to see them in concert twice, the first time here in Toronto at Exhibition Stadium in 1980 and the second time at the Docks (Toronto again) in 2011. When they broke up in 1988 I was disappointed and figured I'd never hear Cars songs again, even though Ric was still doing solo albums, which I thought were pretty good, it wasn't quite the same.
But when they got back together 24 years (!) after their last album, Door To Door and put out a new album, Move Like This, sadly, minus bassist Ben Orr who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2000, I was thrilled. I was always hoping they'd do at least one more album but now, sadly, that won't happen. There's no replacement for Ric Ocasek. He was so unique and talented. I'm glad they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. They deserved it. All I can say is R.I.P. Ric.

The Cars were a pretty unique group, due in no small part to Ric’s songwriting. I always preferred Benjamin Orr’s vocals, but it was always Ric at the heart of the band.
