I don’t have Melodyne (the built in pitch editors in most Daws are good nowadays). What else is Ara2 useful for?

Hey 4damind - did you actually read something about Windows 10 1903 compatibility? I think .0.30 should fully support that now, but their "OS support list" still lists "Redstone 5" (aka Windows 10/1809). I just want to check in with possible warnings.

Also... still no video engine update... you still can't "render audio in video" on Windows unless you use Cubase 8.x and Quicktime. I really do hope that this topic is not moved back to Cubase 11 (Autumn 2020).

Also - need to check if AAF import/export is finally fixed now. So many hiccups with trading with macOS/Logic still.

it's an extension for audio plug-in interfaces like as AU, VST and RTA, it allows higher level plugin integration since the plugins which use this interface able to see not just a momentary snapshot of a project but the whole song: audio data, tempo, pitch, and rhythm are all shared without any kind of audio material transferring between the DAW and plugins, version 2 added some other things like simultaneous editing of multiple tracks, transfer of chord track information, and undo synchronization with the DAW

and to answer your question, VocALign from Synchro Arts also uses it, https://www.synchroarts.com/blog/new-hi ... udio-one-3

No, I didn't see an official statement about the compatibility to 1903.

I haven't got a link to hand, but render video has been confirmed in the Steinberg forums for a future maintenance release of Nuendo 10 and the next paid upgrade of Cubase (likely to be end 2019 if Steinberg stick to the same release pattern as they have used recently).

With the release of Nuendo 10, Nuendo and Cubase have a unified codebase - Nuendo is a superset of Cubase Pro other than omitting VST Transit. Nuendo 10 is a more recent release than Cubase Pro 10, also Nuendo has specialist post-production features, which is presumably why Nuendo 10 will get video render and Cubase 10 will not.

Most built in pitch editors in DAWs don’t do polyphonic audio, so are of limited use. I think it is also generally considered (from what I have read in reviews) that even on monophonic audio, Melodyne is superior in both features and sound quality.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S49MK2, Studio One, BWS, Live+PUSH 3 Standalone, Reason, Osmose, Summit, Pro 3, Prophet8, Syntakt, Digitone, Drumlogue, OP1-F, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

There is a known bug in Cubase Pro 10.0.30 that ARA2 audio does not work if you have the 64 bit audio engine selected in Cubase. It should work correctly if you select the 32 bit audio engine. The fix for this is supposed to appear in Cubase 10.0.40.

Melodyne’s mono pitch correction algorithm has not been updated in years. It’s fallen behind the competition. Compared to others it’s starts to sound really wonky quite quickly. I actually prefer Autotune or even Waves on vox.

Can I please get the source for that? Because if that is the case, then I'm seriously pissed off.

I'm getting a bit sick of the "Nuendo is a Post-Pro Machinery" argument. Cubase had it first, Nuendo wouldn't exist without Cubase. It would be nice if we're not treated as paying beta testers for once.

See this post from Matthias Quellmann and his follow-ups further down the thread.

Render video was a 'coming soon' feature promised as part of Nuendo 10, just as ARA2 was a 'coming soon' feature for both Cubase Pro 10 and Nuendo 10. Cubase Pro 10 has no outstanding 'coming soon' features - ARA2 was delivered as part of 10.0.30 and should be refined in the upcoming 10.0.40 release.

Nuendo 10 hit the market relatively recently. Now that Steinberg have unified the codebase of Cubase and Nuendo, it is unclear whether they will align the product cycles or Nuendo will continue to lag the Cubase product cycle.

The good news on this point is that Nuendo 10.1 and Cubase 10.0.30 were released simultaneously, which IMO bodes well for the future in terms of keeping them in sync. Perhaps with "big" feature releases, say with Cubase 10.5 this November (assuming they stick with the current pattern), I could understand if Nuendo might have to wait for a few months, which is far better than before. But at least right now, with this maintenance patch, they are following through. Hope this pattern continues.

Post

Read the thread, "video engine for Nuendo maybe in 10.1 (free), for Cubase we're talking maybe in 10.5 already", not amused, still the "Nuendo this/Nuendo that" excuse (hey, we got VR, but can still only work with 5.1 surround while Nuendo got a Auro-3D and 22.2 support! Current surround standard is 7.1 - heck even S1 and LPX can do that natively). Back to hoop-jumping workarounds it is.

Thanks David W.

Been with Steinberg for 25 years. I always hope that they follow through, but in the end I regularly have a sour taste left in my mouth. Also - I do not trust the "Codebase for Cubase and Nuendo is the same now".

YMMV.
