Frankfurt airport sucks donkey balls.
Yep, had a connecting flight a few weeks back that I missed as a result. I asked to jump the queue and discovered that the vast majority of people in front also missed their flights, despite them all being different. Such a complete sh!t show.

but let's make the distinction between backups and archiving.

Backups are what you do of your system. And your Data.

Archives are what you do of just your Data.
Hmmm, not everyone makes that distinction that way.

My take on it would be that archives typically means copies of data that are not current, but are being preserved. Long-term storage of stuff that is not necessarily intended to be used, but is being kept. There's no sense of 'recovery from emergency', just ensuring that data is available. Technically, it could even be the only copy.
That's based on what archives are outside the context of computers; when I started in IT, that was direct connotation. And immediately-accessibly storage was far more finite so archival was a constant requirement.

Backups, in contrast, have always had the context of 'safety copies' ie duplicates, but Ive never come across that distinction between 'data' or 'data and system' recovery.

Yeah, it's a shitshow. We're exhausted, train to Stuttgart is late. All because AerfuckingLingus canceled their direct Stuttgart-Dublin route.

Yeah, I'm sure they don't. I was just musing on a theme. Not trying to be definitive.

The whole think with backup/archiving is that it is a moving target.

Every time you think you got it in your sights, well, that new setup you created just added some more entropy in to the system, and it's a different game.

I certainly don't have a handle on it. Though I've thought about it.

I can see a lot of people have never thought about it at all.

Then there are others, who have thought about it, that still get caught out.

I suppose everyone has to find a system that works for them. Then test it. Then not stray too far from that once they got a good thing going.

The ideal of course would be to hire a man to come in and do it all for us, at no expense spared. But most of us deal with limited time, limited cash, and limited tech ability.

I'm pretty good with tech, but even if I had all the money and all the time in the world, this would be my weak spot.

It was hard to lose some of the best music I made. And I feel for others who get to experience this loss. I can see how it might make them 'Zen' about it all.

Hopefully you are back up and running in the next days.

Warriors. They had a chance and blew it, with other nonsense, but then again congrats to the Raptors, I'm not a poor-sport. They won it, they deserved it, and it sucks but they are on top!

Yeah, just riffing off the same notion.

Cheers. The main time sink now is probably all the wee 'indie' Kontakt libraries, all of which are packaged up differently. And everything left seemingly needing some sort of manual intervention to get them sorted (be it moving snapshots, or just juggling the folder structure)

And now my Taranna relatives will be even more insufferable. Then again, I just have to say '1967' and that shuts them up. :hihi:

Trying to mix a track and for some baffling reason I can't seem to get any gain out of it whatsoever.
I've gone back to basics and worked up from the bottom about four times now :x

I have to go out today to see someone, and the toe next to my right big toe is quite gouty. I'm a little annoyed, because this toe never gets gout. Well, now it has. I'll be hobbling around this afternoon. Feck.
