I am looking for free instruments that replicates real instruments.

So far I've downloaded something called Dexed. It is a replica of the Yamaha DX 7 that we used to have in the house.

But I miss the sounds from the real instrument. I found no extra sounds for Dexed.

Is there a list of free software replica of real instruments ?

Only 64bit please.

I also want drums and acoustic instruments.

Thank you

What you want is a sampler. Sforzando from Plogue should do it, then look for free sfz sampl packs... The sampler forum has resources listed...

No extra sounds for Dexed ????
Have you seen this page? https://asb2m10.github.io/dexed/

It's written there:

Hint: BlackWinny from kvraudio did a great DX7 compilation named Dexed_cart_1.0.zip. Simply unzip the content of this zipfile to your Cartridges directory.

Download this and you will get many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many .....

As always with many many presets. Needs more time to find a sound than programming it yourself - including learning how to do it...
As the op is asking for real instruments - show me that real piano sound for the DX 7. Searching for it is a waste of time... You get decent timpanies though...

For free instruments I would suggest looking at the different synths used in the KVR One Synth Challenge which normally uses free synths. More recent ones will be 64bit. The past synths are listed on the left hand side of the page here:
https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/os ... e-cheese-2

For realistic sounds the easiest way is sample libraries or romplers. For synthesis physically modelled or additive tends to have more potential for realistic sounds. But if you listen to some One Synth Challenge winners, the good sound designers can use any free synth and create great sounds.

One synth in particular I'd suggest looking at is u-he's Triple Cheese because it's a comb filter synth, which is a technique used in physical modelling. (While you're there you should download all of u-he's free synths, they're some of the best!) Check out Taron's entry for the Triple Cheese OSC, it's incredible to think that it was made with a free synth:
https://soundcloud.com/taronium/taron-f ... 116-triple

For drums and percussion, a popular free synth is TAL NoiseMaker, which is a very popular free synth. The MSEG helps a lot with designing percussive sounds. This synth was a lot of fun to use because of the simple architecture and the sync, FM and Ringmod (synths with features like that are generally a lot of fun to design sounds for!).

Another synth that is definitely worth checking out is ModulAir by Full Bucket Music It's a modular synth and is the most complex of the ones I've mentions, it has a lot of useful modules like a wavetable support, and a comb filter amongst many other, these are modules that help a lot with creating 'realistic' sounds.

It's tricky to find free additive synths Autogun (Windows only) is definitely worth looking into and sounds great, however you can only randomise presets based on seeds (4294967296 presets!). To edit the presets and create your own you need the fully featured Ogun synth. however don't let that put you off this is definitely worth spending time with and you can find some incredible organic/natural sounds.

Surge is also one of the best free synths currently available, it used to be a commercial synth and recently got open sourced and developers have already begun fixing issues and adding improvements:

If you're interested in learning sound design, I definitely recommend joining in with the One Synth Challenge here on KVR!

Ehhh....not so true with FM

Dexed comes with a bajillion patches...not the easiest thing to try them all out as they are in "cartridges" much like a DX7 would use. I haven't used this synth much but I don't think it comes with fx (again, much like a real DX7!) so it may sound much better with some reverb etc applied.

I don't know of any non-synthesizer plugins that are good, as I have those bases covered. At some point I think I grabbed "piano one" which is free, but I have several paid piano plugins now that I prefer.

As far as synths, here are ones I have tried and like:

tyrell n6 (u-he)
zebrallete (u-he) ....also there is Podolski by u-he, haven't tried it.
obxd - oberheim sim

I have quite a few synths from Computer Magazine, so you'd say these are "magware". Buy the latest edition for $4.99 and you get a bunch of fx and synths to download. Of these so far I've liked:

Zebra cm
Bazille cm
Thorn cm (really like this one)
Dune cm
a prophet-y one whose name escapes me right now, something with "II" in the name.

All these above cover a LOT of ground and IMO all sound great.

Yep, get a sampler. You can get literally get any 'real' instrument sound immediately, no patching required.

Get the free Kontakt player (https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... t-6-player), then some samples at the Kontakt user library: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/c ... es/kontakt
Ableton Live 10 / Push

Thank you. I did as you said. But it's not possible to download the zip file from that website.

Don’t forget SQ8L. Man, I love the sound of that thing. I always think of the Legendary Pink Dots from the days of yore when I play it. I would pay for a paid update and a port over to Mac but, it still runs solid on a PC
