Use https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
If you plan to use all 8 cores at 4.7 GHz also set the voltage to 1.3v in the calculator.
(But the CPU may only need +- 1.23 for 4.7GHz on all cores)

With the watts value from outervision, look at the PSU review for the efficiency curve
This is very interesting, thanks! I used the calculator and got a load Wattage of 222W, which seems crazy low.

One thing I noticed when comparing the 550, 650, 750 and 850 version of the RMX is that the fan seems to only kick in at much higher Watts with the 650x. So at my load wattage the 650x would be silent, whereas the others wouldn't.

Not sure if that's a good thing or not though, as surely the fan not kicking in means my system would be hotter?

You are welcome.
Very informative. A bit complex so I may just stick with using the extra 64GB SSD for the paging file.
Any advice on how to set up the partition?
No, just create the partition and format it to NTFS.

I am glad to help.
It is a good thing, the system will be quieter.
Your system will not be hotter, the PSU get air from the bottom outside
and throw the hot air to the back of the case.
The case fans is what you have to set properly.

BananaJoe wrote: Sat Jan 26, 2019 9:02 pm Regarding everything else, most software have limits on how many cores they can use or are not optimized as you said. Cubase for example is limited in 12 or 14 cores, i don't remember well. If you have more Cores than that Cubase will not make use of the extra ones. Having a 128 cores quad Xeon would be futile.
.

Yeah, although to clarify Cubase is optimized up to about 32 threads (16 cores with hyperthreading) and then addressing starts to struggle once you move above it, but it doesn't go unused as the system can make use of extra threads in the background. Most if not all sequencers can handle up to about 28 or 32 threads these days without any stress, with a few running more with a bit of tweaking.
I took delivery of a 3xs TZ390 which I installed over the weekend. Initial tests with Cubase 10 showed equal load across all 16 logical processors.
OT I picked up a Magma 4 slot chassis on eBay which works perfectly with the pc running 3 TC Powercore PCI cards and a cardbus adapter running an RME cardbus multiface adapter. It’s great having a state of the art PC that can still run Access Virus on the PCI pocos.

Best to disable i9-9900k "core parking" in the Registry?
If yes what is the best way to accomplish this?

It gets debated as to its effectiveness these days although I still occasionally get cases where it's had a positive outcome, so I still tend to run with it myself.

Manual edit of the reg string works for me when needed.

The link is form 2010. Does the info still apply?

So you run core parking enabled?
And this is what you recommend in 2019 on Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit.

Surprised no mention of core parking at Black Viper

The reg key hasn't changed.

I do.

It's not as helpful as it used to be, but it still fixes some glitching issues I've seen in recent years.

Wouldn't know, I've never been a fan of it. As someone who worked support for a decade, it's amazing how tired you get of people randomly applying tweaks they've seen online and then being all surprised and blaming you because they didn't understand the knock on effect that the tweak had on the rest of the system.

Its not, honestly. but if you are sacrificing stuff like RAMs( 16 at least) and like SSD to get the I9, then please use a lower end stuff so that your rig balances out and not bottleneck:). You can PM me if you want. i built a PC rig and am very happy with it:)

I could rarely get "coreparking manager" to work properly in its past revisions, I found it easier to just write my own script to handle what I need and then packed it in with all the other power scheme tweaks I do to save some time when doing installs here.

That said, I'll check this out in it's new guise. It'll be handy if it's working properly now for some of the other guys here who want to be a bit more subtle with it.
