Do you heavily use the stock eFX/Mix plugins in your DAW(s) ?

Well, that's sort of the problem. Developers who do DAW can't necessarily code effect or instrument plugins. And not every company is as big as Apple, and can easily buy in external stuff. I agree though that Presonus should do something about that. After all, good included content is always a argument for the buyer.

Yes, I do. I do so because most of my Tracks are produced for the KVR OneSynthChallenge where only DAW FX or free FX are allowed if at all. Chorus and Stuff is prohibited.
- I produced quite a number with Cubase and enjoyed for instance "Frequency ES" which is an absoluteley tremendous EQ.
- I have siwtiched to Bitwig a few months ago and I enjoy using Bitwigs FX as well. Mostly bechause they go very well with the modular approach which is at the core of Bitwig. Check out BW 3 which comew with "The Grid"

Hmm, I find Studio One´s fx quite good...
- Pro EQ is very easy on CPU (with High quality off, which doesn´t make any difference for me sonically)
- Compressor does everything I need from a channel compressor
- the new Fat Channel with it´s free additions is outstanding imho
- I wished they would made a single plugin out of Binaural Pan and Mixtool but both together do the job
- Beat and Groove Delay are the only one´s I use atm...
- Open Air is a good convolver
- Room Reverb is a good reverb for realistic stuff (don´t like Mixverb though), Oril River for everything else... (still cannot believe that this is a free plugin)
- X-trem is a nice one too
- the distortions do sometimes the job too...at least nice additions
- don´t have much use for Chorus/Flanger/Phaser/Rotor in my music though... cannot speak of them
As for Instruments, the new Impact XT and Sample One XT are nice additions and get a lot of use here too... I don´t use the synths though
From what I´ve seen, Logic is the king of stock plugins... A Mac is a big no-go, so nothing for me...sadly...
Live´s are very good too and even the often smiled at FL Studio plugs I used more often than any payware...(best sampler channel integration of all software, best slicer, best vocoder, best audio editor, very very good delay and reverbs, as I good more IL plugs, Harmor is a monster, Gross Beat is very nice, Sytrus is a monster too, Maximus if used correctly is outstanding for sound design, Love Philta is very nice and deep, can continue endless here ... )
As for my mixing situations 95% is about EQ/Dynamics/Delay/Reverb I am pretty good covered by Studio One respectfully freeware...

Thats why DAWs like Reaper with their JS effects and Live with they're MAX are so valuable because they enabled coders to make effects for it. In fact Tracktion is doing this now too. Reaper has some unbelievably good JS effects but because of the AirWindows-esque GUI nobody knows about them

I use the mixtool, limiter, analyzer and scope in studio one, that's about it. It's not really that stuff is
bad, they just lack the convenience and seamlessness of the effects in say Bitwig, live or Reason.
Since it's the same workflow as using plugins, there's not as much incentive to use them over 3rd
party stuff, which I almost always prefer anyway.

I use Maschine standalone as my DAW.
I use Transient Master a lot. The compressor is okay for sidechain stuff. Mostly I use third-party plugins (lots of Toneboosters, Valhalla, u-He).

Or... you could just use some excellent 3rd party effects.SoundPorn wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 12:55 pm Thats why DAWs like Reaper with their JS effects and Live with they're MAX are so valuable because they enabled coders to make effects for it. Most of what’s in Logic was there before Apple bought Emagic. The Camel Audio stuff was acquired, but I’m pretty sure everything else was developed in-house by Emagic (most of what’s in Logic now) or later by former Emagic people at Apple (Guitar Pedal Board, new reverb, Retro Synth). If anyone knows better, by all means correct me

Using very very often. I am in Cubase 9.5. Especially frequency EQ, just try yourself. its so cpu efficient and hi quality sounding it made me to sell equilibrium. I find myself shifting to stock plugins more and more every day. btw, I have waves mercury and many other plugins. stock plugins just seem more stable and reliable in everyday work and already have all basic requirements covered.

90% of the effects I have in any given mix are REAPER stock plugins. While I do have a selection of third-party VSTs, mot of which are freeware, I've barely found use for a quarter of them - I only ever use those if I'm looking for a sound that a stock plugin can't pull off.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

I agree, SO has some nice effects IMO. In addition to very decent, transparent stock plugins like the Pro-EQ, compressor etc., I especially like the Fat Channel stuff. There are emulations of the LA-2A, 1176, Pultec etc. plus the free Presonus pack (VT-1 is great). There's also the Console Shaper which is great for coloring tracks with drive, adding crosstalk etc.Trancit wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 12:51 pmHmm, I find Studio One´s fx quite good...

The delays, reverbs and other effects are also perfectly serviceable, though you might want third party versions for more creative uses.
Maybe people are not aware of that stuff since it's kind of hidden away under the dubiously named "Fat Channel"? Or maybe it's more about not wanting to lock yourself to one DAW, since plugins from Waves, Softube etc. will work under any DAW....

Wow - very nice, Mr. discoDSP. Great variety and imagination - it doesn't sound like the same old stuff I usually hear from here (and the same old stuff coming out of my little studio). What are you using for your lo-fi traps?discoDSP wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 3:21 pm
