This film was a real landmark, in many sense. Harry Dean Stanton was incredible. And, ”Roxanne, you don’t have to put the red light on...”.

Ennio Morricone
My favourite Morricone theme by far was the one he did for 'Days of Heaven' - so beautiful.
Over the years I've tried to track down as many of the lesser known films whose themes somehow got onto various Morricone anthologies. Such as

He was very prolific, especially during that golden age, and not all the films he scored would now be considered "masterpieces" but for some of us the search still goes on... :hihi:

Speaking of lesser-known Morricone, I like this one:

Kind of an atmospheric slow burn and probably too long to put on a "best of," but it's still a great memorable theme. Never did see the movie...

I agree, Harry Dean Stanton was great.
On the soundtrack he also did the lead vocals on one of the tunes.
Beautifully sung in Spanish.

Shawshank Redemption and Gladiator for overall film and musical meld and emotion.

Dragon: Bruce Lee Story and Rocky for 'moment of triumph'.

https://youtu.be/8CHCDoDnEugow to Train Your Dragon for best in animation.

Star Wars for obnoxiously epic everwhere.

Gattaca for impact. Its like a very small orchestra and sounds very personable sometimes.

Heat 1995 - For knowing when NOT to put music - the gun battle is stil tthe best ever IMO

Pretty much everything by Tan Dun.

^^ Actually I am a very big Cooder fan and heavily into his soundtrack work. Rhino recently released a box set of all his soundtracks. Quite a few that were out of print titles for a long time, such as Alamo Bay. I had most of them on LP long time ago until I gave them all away. Anyways, one heavily under appreciated one is the soundtrack to Johnny Handsome from the early 90s. It's a case where the soundtrack is far superior to the actual file itself. Cooder mixed Cajun with Tex-Mex stylings and used a lot synths that were to show up much more prominently in his later soundtracks for Trespass and Last Man Standing. I am still hanging around waiting to see if anyone anywhere in Los Angeles film industry find or digs up the tapes for Southern Comfort and The Border soundtracks. They mysteriously disappeared.
