Yes, it is possible. The top and bottom halves of the signal are each clipped by a different diode. If you change the diode or, more drastically, add multiple diodes in sequence vs. 1 diode on the opposite side, the distortion will become asymmetrical.

Click on the MODS button, then select 2 from the diode count but on only one of the diodes. This will give you an asymmetric clipper, which is a common mod for a tube screamer, and actually the default setup for a Boss OD-1 (1977), which the tube screamer was copied from:
https://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/ ... rdrive.php
Ibanez wanted to compete with Boss, so they got another company Maxon to design the Tube Screamer for them. The Maxon designed TS-808 (1974) copied the drive section from the Boss OD-1, but since Boss had a patent on putting two diodes in one direction and only one in the other, they had to use symmetric clipping diodes with only one facing each way. Maxon did add a very useful basic tone circuit to the TS-808, using a dual op-amp.
Boss returned the favour when the TS-808 sold well by copying the tone circuit but kept their patented asymmetric diodes in the drive section and released the SD-1 (1982).
In the end I think the name "Tube Screamer" and garish green colour won, not the actual sound! The Boss yellow was good, but the name OD-1 "Overdrive 1" is pretty boring, and so was SD-1 "Super Overdrive 1". I think it's funny that lots of people that buy a tube screamer then mod it to make it into a SD-1 instead of just buying an SD-1 to begin with!

Yep, quite right on all counts, thanks for chipping in!sleepcircle wrote: ↑Mon Jan 21, 2019 4:05 pm Yes, it is possible. The top and bottom halves of the signal are each clipped by a different diode. There's already a SD-1 preset there - so I guess it's already done

All I know is the Scream and the Drop are two of the best sound shaping tools on the market. Own them or check yourself in and get evaluated.
Thanks Andy
Ps. Not sure ever need all these other distortions people ask for unless direction of Muffs which probably can be attained in the aforementioned using both, not even sure yet

fuzz pedals have a very different architecture--i can't imagine it'd be easy to get the same sound…

This is the version I've got installed & archived, but I notice the latest version on the site seems to be v1.0.8.... Is the v1.0.8 version on there the same as the '1.0.10' one ?andy-cytomic wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 8:52 am The Scream Beta v1.0.10 (12 Dec 2017)

- Fixed: Active LED now displays correctly when host automation is used
- Fixed: (Win only) built against v140_xp SDK on for Windows 7 support

I've taken a lot of time and effort developing robust generic circuit solving tech, so I definitely plan to roll out more plugins using it, including a bunch of very diverse sounding stomp boxes. I won't release another Tube Screamer type pedal since you can already do them all with The Scream, but different pedal architectures are going to be really fun to mess around with and create sounds that won't be possible with The Scream.

The v1.0.10 build didn't work on Windows, so I reverted to the older build. You can test it out if you want, just change the download link manually to v1.0.10 and it will download.mcbpete wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 1:09 pmThis is the version I've got installed & archived, but I notice the latest version on the site seems to be v1.0.8.... I just checked, and I've been using 1.0.10 since Dec 2017 - it seems fine here in Windows 10 x64 and Reaper x64. What was the Windows problem?andy-cytomic wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 6:45 amThe v1.0.10 build didn't work on Windows, so I reverted to the older build. I think the problem was with Windows 7, but I really can't remember, I've been in R&D land so long I've forgotten!

Ah perhaps - Yeah 1.0.10 has been working fine here too (Windows 10 x64 - Ableton 10)

A fuzz would be a lot of fun.
Okay, you know that weird 1.0.10 crash bug that was in windows 7? I think it's on up-to-date Macintoshes as well.
Mac OSX Mojave 10.14.2
Reaper 5.965
The Scream 1.0.10
Opening the "mods" pop-up in either the AU or the VST version will crash reaper instantly, close to 100% of the time. If it doesn't crash it, just twiddle a few controls or type a number into one of the full mod text boxes and that'll do it. 1.0.8 doesn't do this at all.
https://pastebin.com/VmNx8Gkq Here's the crash log.
