Midi Loop Slicer Rearranger

HI Guys,
I apologise if this has been asked before - I have searched the forum and I have not found quite what I am looking for...
I have these funky bass midi loops and they work very well with a particular synth preset ("Gaw Bass" in Arturia Mod3, in case you are interested).
What I want to do is mangle the loops quickly and easily. Sounds easy? Well here are my provisos...
1. I want to stay in the midi realm - not audio - this is because the synth is very reactive to different note lengths, different midi note overlays, legato etc. So I want to play back using midi to the synth.
2. I want to slice at BAR points and their subdivisions (1/2, 1/4 etc.) NOT the note points. This is because these midi loops have a lot of groove and feel and I do not want to straighten them out.
3. I want this to be quick and easy. I could do all the above myself by cutting up the midi loop in my DAW and then rearranging the pieces - but this is slow. I want it to be fast, so I can audition repeatedly and quickly until I hear something I like
4. I want to be able to keep and use the newly made midi loop as a midi loop so I can add my own touches in the MIDI realm.
I am asking for a *musical* midi loop mangler. Is there such a thing?
I use Studio One Pro 4 (64) in case that matters.
Thanks Ahead to anyone who knows
Best Regards
Adrian

You could use the Studio One Comping feature to quickly chop up midi loops. Load your loops on different layers and Comp away
Amazon: why not use an alternative

Don't have it (yet), but I think that's the sort of thing ReGroover is for. Trial maybe

ImageLine has a portion of their DAW available as a VST that (IMO) can do what you wish (though maybe not automatic enough):
Slicex is a VSTi drumloop slicer & re-arranging tool. Slicex uses advanced beat detection algorithms to slice song/percussion samples into pieces and make them independently playable from the Piano roll or controller.

You've must not have looked hard enough, or you just not interested in it, but I'll post this again. The best is Transfuser 2 with M.A.R.I.O and I'd put it up against the best of them. That thing is my daily driver and a lot of fun to work with ... that is if you like a tiny gui.
I will drag or record my midi into it, then use the included tools to quickly create variations, and then play the patterns live, or drag them back into my DAW. I'm also able to record the output of my arp/chord VST into TF2, where it doesn't record the output straight to my DAW.
I'm trying to get them to put it into hardware because they are part of Akai, M-Audio, Alesis, etc.

Topcheese thank you so much! I saw this thing a while back and thought it would only handle audio. You have made me realise my error. Looking more deeply into it now. Thank you again!

It may have been audio only as they've been around for a while now. I also like that it's an instrument and FX, so you get two for one. One of the downsides is that it doesn't have midi outs. You would have to drag it out.

Also glad to be of help, and if you do demo it feel free to ask me questions. The midi part is not well documented in the manual or the Internet. I think there is one good article out there about how to use midi patterns with it. You can import them, but you can also drag midi to/from the keyboard layout(12 keys).
I really love the way that I can play the grooves live giving me more than the 12 patterns I put in. In your case you would want to drag the midi out to use in your other VST.

Can Transfuser 1 do it?

When I saw this post I thought of Slicex too. Not sure if we've got the wrong end of the stick, but with Slicex you can just drag and drop a .wav file on to it and it automatically slices it across the keyboard for you to play about with the midi. There is more to it than that of course, but it's kind of unique in how well it works at doing that.NTO wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 3:17 pm Don't have it (yet), but I think that's the sort of thing ReGroover is for. It can read .rx2 recycle and soundfont .sf2 files too iirc. Then again, you may need to use an older version as the latest Slicex has problems with certain file types. Don't know. Check it out yourself.
Not really sure exactly what the OP is asking, but anyway, Slicex came to mind and might be useful somewhere along the line. It's a very useful plugin to have and does things that other plugins can't. Just drop any .wav file on to it and it instantly chops it up and assigns it to midi notes on your keyboard, and this is without all the sound design you can do to all those bits and pieces as well.
But maybe this isn't what the OP wants to do. It's not just drum loops it works with though, though the algorithm lends itself best to that kind of thing. It works with quite a broad range of program material I would say.
You get it free in most version of FLStudio iirc, but you need to buy it to use it in other DAWs, of course.

I'm not exactly sure how much v1 can do, but it can do a lot. Don't quote me on this, but I believe most of the port to V2 was to port it to other plugin formats, because v1 was pro-tools only.

Thanks, I have version 1 and it works in Studio One (the plugin and fx, don't know about the other midi stuff yet).
Thanks also for links.

If that doesn't work out, the other thing that comes to mind is Rapid Composer. They have a demo to check out.Musical Gym wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 6:33 am Thanks, I have version 1 and it works in Studio One (the plugin and fx, don't know about the other midi stuff yet).

Edit: It also has a nice bass phrase generator, and midi out.

Did not know you could drag out, cheers for the tip. Really wish they would implement midi out.. I co-sign that this is a really great/underrated product, perhaps the real gem out of their AIEP bundle.

Hi Topcheese,
Since our conversation here I went and bought Tranfuser 2, checked out a couple of tutorials and played with the presets a bit. I am *very* impressed both with the functionality and the musicality of the thing.
I have not yet tried to mess with a midi file, and, as you say, there are no tutorials, seemingly because everybody prefers to work in the audio realm. I am sure your midi file process is well developed; could you tell me your method?
Best
Adrian
