Uncanny. I was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday. Something "brittle" about the sound...[snip]
Once every couple of months I reinstall it hoping maybe this time it would sound great, but I end up removing it after a few hours. [snip]
Yup, "like soft synths from 10-15 years ago" is a good summary. I never got into it because of this.

As Wags said (early in the thread), that *can* be the appeal of it: thinner synths do tend to fit in thick mixes better. ...But if that's your game, I can think of better UIs (and less itchy marketing departments) to reach for... But, hey, the SM marketing blitz *worked*, as evidenced by the number of people listing it among their go-tos here this week. More power to 'em. ...just count me out. ;)

Dune V1 and Transistor Bass

I guess my most frequently-used synths were the Virus TI, Omnisphere, Zebra and Dune 2. Several others made contributions, but those were probably the most used.

I almost always used Logic Pro's Sculpture, Alchemy and AAS Chromaphone 2.
To a lesser extent, RetroSynth and ES2, both from Logic Pro also.
Was also using Madronlabs' Aalto and Kaivo at times, but I'm becoming less interested in them.

Stopped using:
Synthmaster 2 (Despite my signature. Just doesn't keep up with Falcon and MUX. Also very buggy. Used to be my go-to but has fallen behind now)
Rapture (Honestly forgot I had this)
Oh my … SM2 still is my go-to soft synth, mainly for its sound character and flexibility but the bugs (and the somewhat bland GUI) have seriously spoiled the fun for me as well. Even though I don't see that many alternatives to SM2 for my projects I guess I'll give VPS avenger another shot in 2019.
