getting that sub-bass sound

I do this:

1) Make a copy of said bass part
2) run a HP filter on it and run it around 40hz (any lower than that and your Subs are in the inaudable range anyways)
3) Run a low pass filter which cuts all but the subbiest of frequencies (varies on the effect)
4) Hit it with a compressor limiter not so much that it sounds artificial dynamics wise to the original (unless desired)
5) Mix the new track with the original to bring out some of the deeper bass
