Hi everyone,

I had a very basic question and thought I should ask here instead of asking the author in case i make a fool of myself.

basically on chapter 2 page 13 and 14 of the DSP guide (www.dspguide.com), the author speaks of the mean and the standard deviation. He provides a calculation which allows the average to be calculated for each.

However, on the chart examples I noticed that my calculation (using the calculations provided) did not equal the same as the charts.

the chart shows a mean (figure 2-1) of 0.5 and a standard deviation of 1.

if I calculate this myself, i actually get a mean of 1 and a standard deviation of 0.5.

i am correct?
could this be a typo?

if not, i would really appreciate a very quick and expanded explanation on the the calculations. As i have been really reading through the chapter but kinda get stuck and confused when I apply the science.

Regards,
