For me, it was difficult because I needed a way to interpret what I'm doing so that I can distinguish between what I've tried and what I haven't tried, and in the process, remember what I've liked and what I haven't liked.

Um. I hate to say it, but this thread is over 2 years old. I'm fine. Although I do have to say that the attitude of "How are you even having trouble with this?" to someone who is starting out(or was, at the time of the thread) is a little... condescending? Just saying. I was experimenting at the time, looking for different ways of thinking about things that I might not have considered before, different relations between the notes to make the focus of a motif, etc.
