Regarding the simultaneous USB host and device operation of the FH-2, would the following signal flow work?
• MIDI messages generated on laptop -> sent to FH-2
• Some MIDI messages converted to CV and sent into modular (FH-2 as a device, receiving MIDI)
• Other MIDI messages forwarded to Digitakt (FH-2 as a device and host, receiving MIDI from laptop then sending it on to other device)

Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: you don't get detailed control over what gets forwarded and what doesn't. However, you can control which MIDI channels the FH-2 responds to and which the Digitakt responds to, so make sure the Digitakt doesn't respond to the messages intended for the FH-2 and vice versa.
