purchased USAMO, missing s/n, can't register

I just purchased a USAMO from Big City Music in LA and no serial number was inside the box and this is somewhat of an urgent situation so i am willing to buy a serial to use via the License manager but that does not seem to be an option.

Why isn't the serial ON the unit? if there was a paper serial, does this mean I have an "opened box" product?

what if Big City doesn't have the serial? is there another way to register?

Please help.
