M8.4.0 beta is available in http://www.mutools.com/mulab/beta/

What's changed:
  • New: Automatic Plug-in Delay Compensation. Now you can use plug-ins that need a processing delay like look-ahead compressors, spectral effects, ...
If any such plug-in is used, MuLab now ensures that all audio, event and modulation signals stay in perfect sync.
  • MIDI recording: A new recorded part now simply ends at the time you stopped recording. (before it ended at the end of the last recorded event)
  • Dropping a track recorder on that same track caused a crash. Fixed.
  • Dropping a module on a track and that module is in some way an input to that track's audio recorder, then this caused a feedback loop. Fixed.
  • Project browser can now also be docked at the left side of the main project window.
  • Modulation Monitor now has an indicator that shows whether the input signal is at audio rate.
  • Patch Point module now also has a Modulation input -> output.
  • The "Convert Rex Files" function now is available in all versions.
  • Due to a recent new bug saving a sample to a file caused a crash. Fixed.
  • Cutting multiple modules from a modular area caused a hang. Fixed.
How to update:
Windows: Replace the current MuLab.exe and MuLab.ID by the new versions.
MacOS: Replace the current MuLab.app by the new version.

ok, will test it tomorrow.

Unfortunately I've already caused it to hiccup:

[Semi Off-Topic] Out of curiosity, because there are no feedback loops, the modular structure of any project is a directed acyclic graph, meaning one could linearize it (order) with something similar to topological sort. Is this related to how APDC is currently working Mulab?

Oops, ok i see. Will fix that.

I guess the answer is yes. APDC should be transparant to the musical workflow, nothing to setup, nothing to tweak.

M8.4.1 is available in http://www.mutools.com/mulab/beta/
  • APDC improvements.
  • Inserting a Send in a rack could in some cases cause a crash. Fixed.
  • Less redundant infotips.
How to update:
Windows: Replace the current MuLab.exe and MuLab.ID by the new versions.
MacOS: Replace the current MuLab.app by the new version.

Enabling/Disabling a VST now works wrt to compensation :tu:. However inserting during playback still causes issues as well as deleting an active VST.

Second issue seems fixed. tried also with a TB plug-in, add or remove, on or off seems ok.
Is the PDC taken from the plug-in info or calculated outside?

A VST 2 plugin reports its process delay via "initialDelay".

So far so good :tu:

@sakrabee to see the VST delay, open the VST interface, click the gear in the host menu bar, click show info.

@mutools
PDC is working well so far with M8.4.2. I even did a null test with a sine wave, and an inverse sine wave on a delayed rack. There's some inaudible (too quiet) harmonics that escape, but it's close to a perfect null. Level meters are at -80 peak.

Null test no PDC:

I am now also noticing a quirk, which I have no real good solution for. In other DAW's, PDC will also match the level meters of a rack, meaning the rack vu meters are also compensated. I understand that racks in Mulab work quite differently, but seeing the level meters out of sync is jarring when the use hears the audio in sync.

I'll keep playing around. Good work as always Mutools :tu:

Also I'm getting

Code: Select all

0x00003314 10:06:09:954 Error VcdMpuStp[438]
in the log file.

I the span of 20 minutes there seems to be a lot of these, though they are grouped together in the same MS, interestingly enough.
