In case someone is interested, my personal free favorites that I REALLY use are:

Synth1
TTS-1 (DXi by Cakewlak, now free through BandLab) --> Good for quick sketches.
MPS (Full Bucket Music)
Dexed
PolyGas (I cannot use the 64-bit version in Reaper-64 under W10-64, but the VST32 works fine).
LABS by Spitfire (several sampled instruments)
Surge
Crystal

Another personal recommendation is Komplete Start. I do not use it because I purchased paid versions of their software, but I agree 100% with user mgw38 that this free bundle is very good.
