Samson SR950 details are amazing,it's just 29 euro and probably beat many headphones with 100euro added to their price in term of linearity, but can't be used for long sessions, hurt you ears - i am thinking about new Sennheiser HD300:

M40x
M50x
M50 is more neutral if by neutral you mean a flatter frequency response, there's not that much difference but it's in favour of M50's

I own some old non x M50's, replacing my old pads with these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MFDX4YO/ ... B00JE4KGF2 completely changed the way the cans sounded to an almost completely neutral sound plus they're like slippers for ears so I can wear them for hours (5+) at a time without them getting uncomfortableVortifex wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 7:59 pm Cheers for that, interesting. Just about every comment I've seen from people who've used both say that they find the M50x brighter and bassier and would prefer the M40x for mixing. Perhaps other factors are at play, like the build etc. To be honest I'm never gonna be mixing a top ten hit so it probably doesn't matter anyway.
My KRK's are fairly comfortable but after long periods my ears are relieved when I take them off, the ear cups are a little too small for me. I wouldn't mind something a bit more comfy. I can't get out and about to shops to try them on so I have to buy online, which can be a crapshoot at times.

Mackie MC-250 for around 100 bucks are very good.
You will not find many reviews because they are very new.
In head-fi review is a comparison vs ATH-M50.

If you are still doing research and have time for a long-ish read, take a look at this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=517926
About the models you are considering:
DT 770 Pro are in a different category. In my research, they are ahead of any other closed-back anywhere near the price range.
ATH-M50x - I personally have seen nobody that is serious about mixing recommend the 40 or any other lower model. The M50x are ok and the base standard for mixing. No reason to get a model with less resolution.
And you said you know about correction plugins, but just to reaffirm, you can use a plugin to flatten the eq curve even more. But you can't make your headphones produce better quality sound/detail. That's why you should be looking at the DT 770 Pro regardless of the eq curve.
And if you are mixing primarily with headphones then you want a room simulator as well. I have TB Isone and it does the job of introducing crossfade and space simulation so that the headphones sound more like monitors. Also look into Goodhertz CanOpener.

I love my DT770 pros. Comfortable, a bit on the bassey side, but excellent definition, nevertheless. You need closed-back for mixing?

I can not recommend the HD280Pro headphones for mixing. I do not like the bass nor the very bright sound signature. When pushed hard, they become really uncomfortable in the top end, piercing even. Haven't used my pair of HD280Pros for many years now... They are great as recording cans due to the very good isolation. That's all.

I think you will be happy with them, as long as you find them comfortable enough. For my use, they are slightly too tight and the ear cups too small, just a tiny bit. However, the sound is great as an all-rounder, and I also like the fact that they can be folded in different ways, which helps me as I take my M50x with me everywhere (when I take my audio laptop with me, not as hi-fi cans).
