So many good delays!
In the big, complex delay category I like:
Replika XT: Absolutely brilliant delay. Can be CPU heavy: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... eplika-xt/
Soundtoys Echoboy: A classic. Solid and useful. I could survive with just this: http://www.soundtoys.com/product/echoboy/
In the mid range "workhorse" category I like:
TAL DubX: https://tal-software.com/products/tal-dub-x
TK delay: https://www.tritik.com/products/tkdelay/
AudioThing Space Delay: https://www.audiothing.net/effects/outer-space/
I see lots of love above for Sandman Pro. I find it tends to collapse tracks into chaos, whereas Replika XT tends toward ambience. Add according to taste!

My main delay is Echoboy from Soundtoys but for more experimental stuff I use UVI Relayer or Tekturon. I tested a lot of different delays before I settled for Echoboy, and it is worth every penny.
Win 10 -64bit, CPU i7-7700K, 32Gb, Focusrite 2i2, FL-studio 20, Studio One 4, Reason 10

Ah!! I new there was another multi-tap delay I knew of outside of Delay Designer. I just couldn't remember what it was!!do_androids_dream wrote:Once I got my head around the interface Waves Supertap became my most used and probably favourite delay.. I love how you can filter each tap individually and the modulation section adds nice movement. It's ended up being my favourite doubler plugin too.
I had an idea very recently to use the multi-taps to shape an asymmetrical type of early reflections emulation. I'd be interested to see how it comes out.

Nobody mentioned Dub Machines from Surreal Machines.
I'm into Dub music, dub techno deep ambient stuff, and since I purchased this, There's no other delay in my FX Insert/Send.

Delay threads are like delay vsts: you think another one couldn't possibly interest you, and yet...lnikj wrote:ooh ... it's a name your favourite delay thread Can't think that we've ever had one of those before

Maybe not best, but with great value for money: TAL DubX, HoRNet DeeLay Plus and Outer Space.
For complex delays I love U-he MFM2.

Soundtoys Primaltap, a very individual sounding delay. Really useful for sounding a bit different.

As a guitarist, I realllllly like PSP's StompDelay because it does great ducking. You don't hear the echoes until the last note in a riff, so there's no clutter in your playing.

I think the "best" delay doesn't exist.
I like having at least one "easy" delay in my setup, something like Echoboy Jr, H-Delay, TAL Dub-X (well... actually I have all of them ).
Most of the time when I need a delay, I want to just set up the delay time, the feedback, maybe some other option like the style (ping pong, etc) or a small amount of modulation, and then move on to other things.
If I look at what gets the job done, these are what I should consider my "best" delays.
Then there are the more advanced ones - which can be used for spatialization purposes or for crazy effects - or those with a very specific sound (for example with pitch shifted repetitions).
If I were to name just one "advanced" delay, then it should be Ultratap, only because it has not been named yet in this thread (and the introductory promo is close to end)...
But there's so much room for variations on delay algorithms that it's just a matter of finding stuffs that fits in your own music...
Anyway I think there's a big risk of going overboard with delays because of the choices avaible. The more complex the delay, the more space it needs (and the more sparse the parts need to be). I think it's easy to mess up things with complex delays, that's why I wrote about simple delays that most of time get the job done.
Just my 2 cents, of course.
