Studio One post fader level per channel

Hi,

In other DAWs there's usually a post-fader level per channel/track, while in Studio One there isn't. Well, there is, but it's not a number, it's a bar visually showing RMS and peak level. You can only see the exact values by hovering over it.

I Googled this particular issue and what I read was:
  • pre-fader level is more important to avoid clipping and set the appropriate input level for the plugins that come afterwards (sure, I get that)
  • post-fader level you do by ear
I'm confused by the latter. I'm used seeing post fader levels per channel all the time and this helps me a lot setting the volumes during mixing (in addition to using my ear). How is it that this doesn't seem to be important for Studio One users? Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

H.

The faders are post
This means if you put an insert effect on your channel , the faders lower the output of the processed channel , like most mixers these are post faders .

If you want a pre input gain/trim ( adjusting the amount of input gain into the channel and thus any insert effect ) , see screenshot

You're confused because "Post-Fader Gain" would be the master fader. All faders are always supposed to be the final output of volume for that channel on a mixer. "Pre Fader" is called trim and it's the gain going into a channel. I thought Studio One just added this in their last update to the mixer channels in the form of a small knob to the bottom right...

Anywho maybe you're confused with pre/post fader sends on busses?

All channels are post , if you put klanghelm vu meter on a channel and lowering the fader , the VU meter will not change .
For a channel the input trim is at the top ( when enabled ) , see screenshot

Studio One 4.5 added meter switching so you can see levels on the meter either pre or post fader. Below is a schematic of the mixer.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I haven't made myself clear enough I'm afraid.

The issue I'm experiencing is that I can't see the channel's post fader RMS and peak level like I would in other DAWs, like this screenshot:

Bitwig mixer (you can see the post fader numbers): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uGtBM2 ... sp=sharing

I can drag a level meter on an insert in Studio One but it will give me the pre fader numbers, not post. Which is somewhat annoying.

I've noticed that among the more traditional DAW community this seems like a non issue, but being used to Bitwig (and Ableton) this is very strange :)

By default the metering is post fader , this is what you are asking NO ?

I think OP asking to see the Post Fader Level by ''number''

Post

I think what he means are realtime numeric readouts of the peaks...as the numeric values aren´t fader levels but peak readouts...

That´s what Studio One only got on the master channel and this is a very silly decision imho... there are only a very very few DAWs lacking of this feature and sadly Studio One is one of them (FL Studio the other one I am aware of)

Studio one's main forte is audio , which is also the reason why so much many pro tools users are adopting it .
So it's safe to say that studio one does include the features you say it's lacking , but these are found under the effects + added flexibility of expanding these in the mixer
So , long story short
Insert a level meter set to true peak right click and select expand

This ...plus having to insert a plugin just to see the value read-out is a bit cumbersome...
I stay with my statement... not to have realtime meter readouts on the individual channels for a quite new DAW is absoluely silly ...

Same goes for folder clips...
That they turn into blank clips not showing any content at all if not all content can be squeezed into this poor graphics and therefor not having any indicator that this a folderclip is not really helpful in terms of general overview...
This all plus a couple of very nervig bugs especially after the 4.5 update made me switch to Bitwig...

Yes ( unfortunatly ) it still shows pre fader

I'm happy to see my point is perfectly clear now :) I'm less happy to see that the feature I'm missing is really not there.

But I can live with it: mousing over the fader gives me the post fader peak value if I want it.

Thanks all.
