DAW with wait note recording

I currently use MuLab as my only daw. It lacks a feature I want which will never happen, so I'm wondering if there's any software that can load a VST, record using wait note recording and export the midi file for use in MuLab.
Wait note is where recording is armed but waiting for midi or audio input before it starts recording.
Whether something like reason could do this I don't know. But would consider switching to another daw if it does. But would be happy to use something like audacity to do this but can't find that function if it has it.

FL Studio does (lowest cost version doesn't do audio). They also have an 'Edison' vst (audio only) that you can maybe use with your current(?).
Midi/audio. Default both play and record, but selectable for that...You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Are you referring to MIDI step recording mode, where each time you play a MIDI note it records a MIDI note at the current position point in the grid, and then steps to the next point in the grid, ready for the next note. All without the transport running in real-time record mode? But waits for you to hit the next note, and so on ...
I'm not sure how that would work with audio though, unless it involved some sort of gate on the input.
But you could step record your initial MIDI track, and then bounce it down to an audio track by bouncing the track through your VST instrument.

Ableton Live 10 has it for MIDI, they called it "Capture".

Even Live 10 Lite has it.

You're talking about just instead of a counting in, it starts recording as soon as you input something. Yeah I dunno why every DAW doesn't have this but Reaper does have a script on they're Reapack that allows you to do it for midi.

Also of note which many people don't realize is Reaper has ReaRemote which allows you to control the transport and track mixers from you're phone which is super helpful for recording among other things.

Nor do I! Strange that I requested MuTools add this function to MuLab, but it was denied!
But yeah, that's the exact function I was referring to. Same as count in but instead it activates via a midi note on event.
Thanks for your replies.

Could you please not slander developers.
You made a comment about the feature in a general topic in the forum for the product in question and the developer has not responded. There's a sticky thread in the forum explaining the position on feature requests.

How exactly is that slander? It's a statement of truth, a simple fact that a request had been refused, what's wrong with that?

I'll add further that the dev of MuLab has a massive task and is a lone developer. So it's understandable that certain requests get denied. As is the case with any software that takes requests.
I do find it strange that something this basic isn't included in MuLab, hence my comment. Doesn't mean I'm slandering anyone
You see too much into it Jones. Apologies if it sounded like slander. Sincerely, it wasn't.

Yes, very common with this feature in gear with external sequencer like my Yamaha piano etc.
I often almost run to edrums and other external instruments while doing count in.
But some daws has weird behavior with count in as well, and you cannot start on any beat, it jumps back to start of bar etc. So then you have to fiddle with punch in/out stuff instead.
Many daws has this retrospective recording, capturing things just before recording starts - so should be very easy to implement. Nothing lost - everything gained.

You might take a look at the "Auto Punch" feature in Studio One. You can mark a specific region in your track (Punch in/punch out) to record into. Everything outside the marked region will only playback, and only the marked region in an armed track will be recorded into. This will start recording at precisely the time that you specify:

Or the "Punch in & Out" in Ableton Live is similar:

Punch in out isn't what I am asking for and is something entirely different. But thank you for trying to help.
Punch in out doesn't solve the recording issue I have. In fact, using count in on the old electribes actually missed the first note every time. Which is why I dislike count in, as well as the fact it's off putting.
You should be able to arm your sequencer in the way you feel most comfortable with and from any position. Else it just caters for certain users.
