Live -> Bitwig - anyone looked back?

Have any of you Bitwiggers who left Ableton, looked back and wished you stayed with Live? Or is it just unicorns and happiness in Bitwig-land?

Reason why I ask is I desperately feel a need to switch DAW. I'm thinking of Logic or Bitwig. One of the reasons why I want to move away from Live is that I truly dislike the Arranger. I bought Bitwig when it first came out and while I liked it - I felt there were too many small things missing from it, so I crept back to Live.

Now when Bitwig have matured enough. How is it? Any big problems with it?

if you check the most requested features > viewtopic.php?f=259&t=499400&hilit=poll u can see what is missing

there is a quite big AL vs BWS topic viewtopic.php?f=259&t=499968

the biggest strength of BWS is still the modulation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbJKjwwEIGk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN9n5FOinyw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad_SCQtIq-A
which is missing from Logic, so if you would like to use things above (like sound-designing, or building custom devices just like in Reason) choose BWS otherwise Logic is (can be) better choice

voice stacking also very nice feature of it

If you are recording live instruments, singers etc in a liniar type arrangement then probably logic. A lot of people use 2 DAW such as Live and Cubase or Bitwig and Studio One (in my case) to get the best of both worlds, so you may want to consider logic AND Bitwig if you can stretch to it.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S49MK2, Studio One, BWS, Live 12. PUSH 3 SA, Osmose, Summit, Pro 3, Prophet8, Syntakt, Digitone, Drumlogue, OP1-F, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Nord Drum3P, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

yepp S1 also good, there is quite good trance series on SonicAcademy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jepn1FBlx2A
it demonstrates S1 abilities nicely https://www.sonicacademy.com/courses/te ... udio-one-4 but in modulation BWS is the best or the easiest to use one (and it supports Push1-2 nicely)

I have no regret switching from Live to Bitwig... not at all.

I use MPE a lot and so Live just was not suitable for me. That was what motivated the switch. But over time I found I liked Bitwig better in most ways. Also, Bitwig is being developed much faster than Live. For years I wanted midi channel support in Live and it is still not there. Bitwig recently added it.

I also use Logic because there is functionality that both Bitwig and Live don't have. I consider Logic a no brainer cause you buy it, it does not cost that much and it has a massive amount of capability and it is being actively developed and while it is not guaranteed, you can likely expect some years of updates without having to pay anything additional.

Yes - I will buy Logic sooner or later, the value for that package is just insane. Although I hate the acquisitions of Redmatica and Camel, Apple have at least shown they are taking care of the IPs.

So you guys aren't missing anything from Live? At all?

I've said that should check that poll :D, Groove quantize with custom templates 65 11% second most requested one

there is no MIDI note brush, u can't freely stretch MIDI notes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4HG3qu-lJ4
but piano roll pimping is the the most requested one ...

I switched from Ableton Live 8 to Bitwig 1.0.
The Live 9 beta showed very clearly to me that these people have lost it for what I'm interested in.
Live 10 again showed me I did bet on the right horse with BWS.
No regrets here at all. Even if some things were missing for a while, none of it was important enough for me to want to go back, I got so much more than I ever lost.
YMMV.

Cheers,

Tom

btw, worth to check the DAW comparison table http://www.admiralbumblebee.com/DAW-Chart.html it shows nicely how specialized DAWs are both Live and BWS

They have improved Alchemy quite a lot. And the acquisition works well for Logic users... Alchemy plus all the developments that have happened since have cost nothing at all...

The things I miss from Live: I liked using the vocoder. I liked Midi Step record. Stretching midi clips.

I pretty much never slice up loops and stuff. Live is better there but I don't care in the slightest.

Interesting... just by personal curiosity, what exactly did you feel Ableton lost?

Yeh, that’s a labour of love, a link that should be on a 1000 posts on KVR (along with the customary ‘try the demo’)

It also sort of validates very scientifically the earlier posts about perhaps needing more than 1 DAW to cover all bases....no DAW does everything the best!
