That could be a good feature suggestion on the Reaper forums imo.
To be fair it cant be that annoying, or he would learn a bit of WALTER and do it himself hahaha.
Some custom themes can have very nice graphics, but most of them lack good WALTER coding.
Only behavior of default theme seems got more attention to functional details.
In general all custom Reaper themes could be divided into three groups:
a) crap
b) unfinished
c) unfinished crap

I use a customized Albert-C Solaris Pro. (This is the default theme image from stash.reaper.fm)

Customized layout/size, track defaults, shortcuts, toolbars, and tweaked to better highlight selected vs unselected tracks.

Thanks so much for this thread! I've been using Reaper for over a year and I was starting to get wanDAWrlust (got it?... I'll get my coat) and this thread saved me. Reaper can look a lot cooler!

I put together Reatraction for newbies - it's here:
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=152012

Simplifies the interface an swipes out a lot of the more pro functionality in favour of a simplified set of items.

I just use the default REAPER theme.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

Recently switched over to the Janne2016 noise_construct edit themes. There are two versions:

is the most impressive reworking of Reaper.
I do not use this, I just use the default themes, but ultraschall shows what can be done. Hopefully Reaper opens up even more to other developers so they can build dedicated DAWs based on Reaper but with a stronger interest and effort put in to design. (by which I don't mean "looks")

I use the default 5.0 with a few minor mods I made. Image

This is the theme I still use today. It has by far the easiest to read track name panel and just overall toned down colour pallette which makes everything easy to read.

Is this a theme or a utility to make a theme? It is in German only? Also, I can't find it in the resources of Reaper.

Chrome will translate it into English so you can see what they have done
It is a reworking of Reaper into a DAW suited to professional podcasters.

Default 5. FTW.

I'm continually annoyed and/or surprised that REAPER still has a dedicated UI/graphics person who in my opinion just has a very bad sense of what looks good and is easily readable, making the DAW in its default state the ugliest of the "big" programs out there.

The default theme colors and icons are just a horrible mess to my eyes.

Luckily there are themes to choose from - my favorite has been RADO for about five years straight.

It's all in the eye of the beholder, no?

It's funny though, when I'm working in Reaper, I just want the UI to stay out of the way and default 5 does that, but in Bitwig I kinda like the bling...

Also (afaik), WhiteTie is not a Cockos employee, they don't have a full-time graphics guy.
