Hey all!
I know there is no such thing as "perfect" in production, but this guy has excellent control over all of his elements in the mix. By "control" I mean his kicks are not overbearing but they're also very punchy in the mix. Of course everything else is along with it has the same effect. Many professional tracks do this, but this guy has the most obvious result I can find.

In my masters, I even though I have a heck of alot of compression and limiting going on, it just sounds like things are poking through too much?.. Im probably explaining it poorly. But hopefully you can hear what I am talking about. Obviously the musical styles are very different but you should get the idea haha.

Below, the track from BVSSIC called Bass Splitter, is more my style, but he also does an excellent job with this.

Am I correct in that my problem may be compression / limiting settings? And if so what are some techniques or suggestions to get this level of quality?...
Perfect control over dynamics?

tbh both examples just sound grating and exhausting to me, and I don't mean because of the style..
but that's not the point.
There isn't a compressor or limiter setting that's gonna do that for you. You have to create that room in the mix.. then when it comes to squash everything to hell and back it'll retain that definition.

I find these mixes pretty bad, way too much sidechaining and pumping. It hurts my ears.
The main secret sauce for a mix is a good use of your faders. Don’t expect your tools to do the mix for you...
